Zane Jennings quickly averted his gaze, the tips of his ears growing warm for the first time. He looked down and pointed at his watch. "It's six-thirty."
Time to get off work.
"Zane."
Erin Lowell called out to him, her face illuminated by the light. Her voice was soft, and her expression had thawed.
This was the first time she had said his name. Zane's Adam's apple bobbed sharply, and his heart skipped a beat. "What is it?"
She kept staring at him. "What were you just doing?"
His hair looked freshly styled, very handsome. With his jacket zipped halfway, he met her gaze without shying away. "You forgot? I enjoy saving damsels in distress, playing the hero."
Erin asked in a low voice, "Are you really only in this for a few meals?"
Zane stared at her for a few seconds, then gave an ambiguous answer. "Barring any surprises, yes."
