The fear of hurting Shen Nian and the longing to hold her warred in Lu Cheng's mind. For the longest time, neither thought could win out over the other.
Then, a sudden sound from the bedroom jolted Lu Cheng back to his senses. All his conflicted thoughts vanished as he immediately bolted toward the bedroom.
"Xiao Nian, are you okay…?"
Lu Cheng burst into the bedroom, his face a mask of anxiety. However, the sight that met him was Shen Nian, smiling radiantly.
Shen Nian was sitting up in bed, smiling at him. She was clearly perfectly fine.
And the sound he'd just heard had obviously come from the stool that was now lying on the floor by the bed.
Lu Cheng let out a sigh of relief. He knew Shen Nian must have made the noise on purpose, but he couldn't bring himself to be angry with her in the slightest.
As long as Shen Nian was okay, that was all that mattered.
