After hearing what Mrs. Summers said, Lucy Summers looked at Mr. Summers, tears streaming down her face. "Dad, will you please help me?"
Before Mr. Summers could respond, Mrs. Summers cut in. "Don't you try to guilt-trip your father. He doesn't have any money."
Lucy sniffled, her hands by her sides clenching into tight fists. With a THUD, she dropped to her knees.
"Dad, I really don't want to go to jail..." she said through her tears. "Can you find a way to borrow some money to help me through this? I promise I'll work hard to earn it back and repay you."
"What did you say?" Mrs. Summers's expression instantly turned cold and sharp. "Borrow a hundred thousand to pay off your debt? How dare you even say that? What kind of parents borrow money to pay off their daughter's debts?"
"Mom, just treat it as a loan from you and Dad," Lucy said anxiously. "You're the only ones who can help me..."
Mrs. Summers was resolute. "Impossible! We can't help you!"
