"Didn't you say I was your best friend?" Zoe Morgan's eyes were red-rimmed as she asked in a trembling voice.
"I did," Faye Wyatt nodded and smiled faintly. "But that was in the past. I don't need you anymore. I have new best friends now, and they're wonderful."
"Do all our years of friendship mean less than them?" Zoe's tone was filled with incredulous and hurt disbelief.
Faye found it laughable, but as she laughed, tears began to well up in her eyes.
She stared at Zoe Morgan, her voice choked with emotion. "I was the one who introduced you to Genevieve Hayes. I was the one who brought Genevieve to the Morgan family. Do you have any idea how much I feel like a criminal right now?"
She had also been the one to take Genevieve Hayes to see Zoe Morgan abroad.
Later, during Genevieve's pregnancy and childbirth, Faye had helped out considerably.
When Zoe was too busy, it was Faye who took Genevieve to her prenatal appointments.
