KAYLA'S POV:
I was sitting in class, half-listening to the teacher and half-admiring my freshly done nails.
They were perfect.
Glossy. Sharp. Expensive-looking.
Exactly how I liked them.
I tilted my hand under the sunlight coming through the window, watching the polish catch the light with a satisfied little smile. At least something in this school had taste.
The classroom buzzed softly with idle chatter. Some students were pretending to pay attention, others were doodling in their notebooks, and the rest were probably too scared to breathe too loudly around me.
As they should.
I leaned back in my chair, inspecting my nails from another angle when suddenly,
"Kayla!"
A breathless voice broke through the calm.
I looked up, mildly annoyed.
Mia came rushing into the classroom like she'd just escaped a disaster, her face pale, chest heaving, one hand gripping the doorframe for support.
Her hair was a mess, and she looked seconds away from collapsing.
I arched a brow.
"What happened?"
She tried to catch her breath, clutching at her chest.
"F-fight… in the cafeteria…"
I rolled my eyes and looked back at my nails.
"So?"
Fights weren't exactly rare in this school.
Rich brats, fragile egos, and too much inherited power? It was basically a breeding ground for violence.
Mia swallowed hard.
"It's… it's between Theo and Hari."
My hand froze midair.
For a second, I thought I'd heard her wrong.
Then my eyes widened.
"What?!"
The chair screeched against the floor as I stood up so abruptly that several students turned to stare.
Theo?
And Hari?
What the hell....
Without another word, I stormed out of the classroom, Mia stumbling after me as I headed straight for the cafeteria.
My heels clicked sharply against the hallway floor, each step faster than the last. Students were already crowding the corridor, whispering excitedly and craning their necks toward the cafeteria entrance.
Of course they were.
This school loved drama almost as much as it loved pretending to be prestigious.
I shoved past the gathering crowd without hesitation.
"Move."
No one argued.
No one ever did.
