Meadow's POV
The storm lasted through most of the night. Rain continued hitting the windows while the city lights reflected across the wet streets below. Traffic moved slower than usual. The skyline looked dull under the heavy clouds.
Inside the monitoring room, the three of us were still awake. None of us had said much for the past thirty minutes. The large screen still displayed the name of the company we had just discovered. Argent Civic Analytics. And below it was the name of its founder. Dr. Evelyn Ward.
Lily sat on the couch with a blanket around her shoulders. Her eyes moved between the screens and the floor as if she was trying to understand how the situation had become this complicated.
"I just want to say something," she said quietly.
Alaric did not look away from the monitor. "Go ahead."
"This city is insane."
I smiled slightly. "You are just realizing that now?"
