Lu Nian looked at the card in his hand, the faint glow sealing within it a full two years of life. His gaze lingered on the phrase "special individual" in the description, before slowly shifting to the girl standing quietly in front of him.

A girl who had been willing to give up her own life for someone she didn't even know.

After losing seven years of her lifespan, her face had turned pale, almost translucent, as though she had avoided sunlight for far too long. Snowflakes settled on her shoulders, and her petite frame looked fragile as she stood silently in the cold.

A name surfaced naturally in Lu Nian's mind.

Tsukasa…

Perhaps unfamiliar to most, but to Lu Nian, the name carried weight. If rewritten as Yuzaki Tsukasa, it became unmistakable—a girl who had lived for over fourteen hundred years, the immortal descendant from the Tale of the Bamboo Cutter. A being who had survived centuries after consuming the forbidden elixir meant to grant eternal life.

His eyes drifted downward.

The boy on the ground—now awake—was struggling to sit up. His movements were clumsy and weak, but his gaze never left the girl. He clearly wanted to say something, but his body refused to cooperate.

"Don't force yourself to speak," Tsukasa said softly. "Although this strange store manager treated your injuries, you're still very weak."

She paused, then added calmly, "There's no need to thank me."

After speaking, she turned to Lu Nian. Her eyes were tranquil, yet a trace of curiosity flickered within them.

"I didn't expect you could really do something like that," she said. "I look forward to meeting you again."

For someone who had lived for thousands of years, such confidence was natural. As long as this peculiar store manager continued to exist, another encounter was only a matter of time.

"Mm. Until next time," Lu Nian replied with a nod.

As Tsukasa departed, Lu Nian remained where he was, lost in thought. His curiosity about this world had deepened significantly. He had originally assumed it was a purely technological world, devoid of the extraordinary.

Yet now, Tsukasa—an immortal being tied to ancient legend—had appeared before him.

Clearly, this world held far more secrets than he had expected.

But that was only natural. After all, this was merely his second day here.

As for relying on anime and fiction from his previous life to understand reality—that had always been flawed thinking. In truth, those works were simply fragments of inspiration. Reflections of information exchanged between worlds, subconsciously perceived and reshaped into stories by creators with heightened sensitivity.

At that moment, the truck driver finally rushed back over, phone still pressed to his ear.

"It's okay, I've already called the ambulance!" he said breathlessly. "And you—sir—please stop that girl! She's injured too, she needs to go to the hospital!"

"No… no need."

The boy—Yuzaki Nasa—finally stood up after struggling for a while. Ignoring the blood staining his clothes, he grabbed the driver's shoulder firmly and shook his head.

He then began looking around frantically.

"You… you're alright?" the driver asked hesitantly, staring at him in disbelief, before instinctively glancing at Lu Nian for confirmation.

Help me, his eyes screamed. What in the world is going on tonight?

Getting hit by a truck and then walking away like nothing happened—was this even real?

"It doesn't matter," Nasa said impatiently. "More importantly, where did that girl go just now?"

"You— you should lie down and wait for the ambulance!"

"Lie down? So I can faint again?"

"Isn't that… normal?"

The driver fell silent, his worldview visibly cracking.

Lu Nian sympathized with him deeply.

I understand how you feel, brother. Truly. But right now—this really isn't the time.

"Over there," Lu Nian said, pointing in the direction Tsukasa had left. "She went that way. If you want to catch up, you'll need to hurry."

"No problem!" Nasa replied instantly. "I'm Yuzaki Nasa—faster than NASA, approaching the speed of light!"

With that inexplicable declaration, he bowed quickly to Lu Nian. "Thank you! I'll take my leave!"

And then he sprinted off, disappearing into the snowy night, leaving the driver staring blankly after him.

"…He's full of energy," Lu Nian muttered.

He patted the stunned driver on the shoulder, said nothing more, and quietly left the scene. Behind him, the distant wail of an ambulance grew closer and closer.

"Should I go back tonight?"

The ambulance sped past Lu Nian as snow continued to fall. Looking up at the darkened sky, he considered his options. For now, he didn't want to return to the Pure White Space—that empty world where he had spent decades alone.

Am I going to end up sleeping on the streets?

Half an hour later, Lu Nian stood on a bustling street, surrounded by lights and people, yet completely unsure of where to go. Hotels required money—and he had none.

"This young man," a voice called out, "why are you standing here so late instead of going home?"

A woman wearing a white coat, a cigarette hanging from her lips, tapped Lu Nian lightly on the shoulder. Her sharp eyes scanned him from head to toe.

She had noticed him the moment he stepped onto the street.

Handsome, young, and strangely out of place. He looked about the same age as her students, yet there was a loneliness about him that didn't belong in a lively crowd.

Standing alone amid all this noise—empty and detached.

She couldn't help but approach.

"Are you… Hiratsuka Shizuka?"

Smack.

Pain exploded on his head.

Lu Nian froze as the iron fist landed cleanly. Hiratsuka Shizuka immediately reacted, flustered.

"S-sorry! Sorry!" she said quickly, then frowned. "Wait… I don't even know you. And I'm sure I'd remember a face like yours."

Seeing her embarrassed expression, Lu Nian hurriedly apologized as well. He hadn't expected to encounter her tonight as well. Between Tsukasa and Hiratsuka Shizuka, his brain had clearly lagged behind.

"Hmph." Hiratsuka crossed her arms. "What's your name? Which school do you attend?"

"…I'm not a student," Lu Nian replied honestly.

"Not a student?" She frowned. "Then why are you wandering around this late instead of going home?"

Her instincts as a teacher kicked in immediately. Did he run away from home? With recent incidents involving troubled youths, she felt obligated to intervene.

After all—

What a waste it would be if such a handsome boy went down the wrong path.
