Chapter 4 - Chapter 4 --[[In Short, It’s Very, Very Cute]]

"Finally… it's done."

Within the Pure White World, on a small island spanning more than thirty kilometers in radius, Lu Nian brushed nonexistent dust from his clothes and admired the small building he had personally constructed.

Pushing the door open, the first floor came into view. At its center stood a large display cabinet. The divided shelves were still empty for now. Nearby were wooden coffee tables and sofas, giving the space the faint atmosphere of a lounge. The rest of the area remained vacant, waiting for future additions.

At the rear of the first floor was a plain wooden door. Behind it were stairs leading to the second and third floors—spaces Lu Nian had reserved as his private living quarters.

After giving the store a final inspection, Lu Nian reached into his trouser pocket and pulled out a book in a way that blatantly violated common sense. He flipped through it, selected several cards, and placed them onto the shelves.

[Name: Fresh Grouper ×10]

[Attribute: None]

[Quality: Normal]

[Type: Food]

[Description: Grouper grown for over ten years in rarely visited waters. The flesh is firm and tender, making it an excellent ingredient.]

[Price: 0.0001 Origin]

Since it didn't cost him anything anyway, Lu Nian had simply grabbed a small island's worth of supplies before returning.

Half an hour later, he looked at the display cabinet that was now half-filled. Most of the items were ordinary ingredients, pearls, coral, and other marine products. Still, a faint sense of satisfaction welled up inside him.

One day, he was certain, this entire cabinet would be filled—and every single item would be a treasure coveted by countless beings.

"Next…" Lu Nian said, exhaling slowly, "I'll open the door connecting different worlds."

He hung a sign on the store's entrance. In the very next moment, the "door" that had previously existed only as a concept began to materialize. From that instant onward, it became a passage connected to innumerable worlds.

"…Why hasn't anyone come yet?"

Lu Nian stood at the entrance and waited for nearly an hour. When no one appeared, he began to doubt himself. Had he made a mistake somewhere?

The feedback from the Pure White Space quickly reassured him—the door was functioning perfectly.

As for when someone would arrive…

That depended entirely on luck.

Once he understood this, Lu Nian's initial excitement faded by more than half. In any case, he could sense it the moment someone passed through the door. After all, this was his territory.

"Why is it snowing?"

As evening fell, ripples appeared in the air within an uninhabited alley in Wenking District. An illusory figure stepped out and gradually solidified. Lu Nian reached out, catching a falling snowflake between his fingers.

A thin layer of snow already covered the surrounding rooftops and the ground.

If he was going to face customers from different worlds, he needed something that would truly draw them in. Something irresistible.

And what was more universal than life itself?

Screech—bang!

A sharp, ear-piercing braking sound cut through the air. In the next second, a figure flew past Lu Nian's field of vision, smashing heavily onto the ground and rolling several meters before coming to a stop.

In just a few seconds, the white snow beneath the body was dyed red.

"It doesn't look like he can be saved," Lu Nian said calmly.

He stepped forward and crouched beside the teenager who had dared to face a speeding truck head-on. After testing the boy's breathing several times, Lu Nian delivered his conclusion in the same detached tone used by movie doctors.

He wasn't joking.

The boy's pupils were already beginning to dilate, and his breathing was fading fast.

"Yeah… there's no hope."

Beside him squatted a girl who looked to be about sixteen. Her face was splattered with blood, yet she nodded calmly in agreement.

"Girl," Lu Nian said, glancing at her, "are you really this composed? I just saw you rush forward to save him. You were hit too, weren't you?"

The girl wore a gray coat and a red scarf. Long crimson hair flowed down her back, tied neatly into a bun. Even with blood on her face, her delicate features and beautiful red eyes stood out. There was an elegance about her—something aged and refined, as though she had been tempered by time itself.

In short—

She was very, very cute.

"I'm fine," she replied, tilting her head slightly. "But can he still be saved, Doctor?"

Despite asking the question, she already knew the answer. Her long life had taught her how to judge such things at a glance.

"First," Lu Nian said seriously, "I'm not a doctor. I'm a store manager—someone who sells anything and buys everything."

He glanced at the boy on the ground.

"And second, he can still be saved. That depends on whether you are willing to save him."

"Is that true?" Her eyes sharpened.

"Of course. He's suffering from massive blood loss, ruptured organs, and multiple fractures. For me, that's easy to fix." Lu Nian paused. "But the price is ten years of your life. Five years to heal him. The other five as a handling fee."

"Deal."

"Eh… wait—transaction—!" Lu Nian froze. "Girl, you don't have to agree so quickly. The handling fee can be negotiated. I'm very flexible."

One day. Two days. Even half a day would have been fine.

But the girl shook her head lightly, clearly unconcerned.

"Five years is nothing," she said. "If you don't hurry, he'll really die."

"I'm being serious," Lu Nian insisted. "I'm not joking with you."

"I know," she replied calmly. "And you're the strangest store manager I've ever met. Now hurry."

Lu Nian stared at her for a moment, then smiled helplessly.

"Alright. As my second customer, I'll give you a discount. This time, the handling fee will only be two years."

As he spoke, the [Fair Trade] ability activated. He reached out, targeting the girl's lifespan and began extracting it.

After a few seconds, her face turned pale, and her body swayed slightly.

"It's done. The transaction is complete."

Lu Nian pointed at the boy on the ground.

His breathing had stabilized. The ruptured organs and shattered bones inside his body had been repaired by an overwhelming surge of vitality. The only issue left was blood loss. With proper rest and nutrition, he would recover fully within a few months.

Another deal completed.

And another fate quietly rewritten.
