Chapter 127 - Chapter 126: Sound Based Genjutsus

After knowing about his identity Kazuma started teaching Shunsui the Kurama clan genjutsu.

Their shared bloodline gave them an unreal level of proficiency with sound based genjutsu, just as much natural talent as the Sharingan gave the Uchiha clan with visual genjutsu.

The older jonin wasted no time because the platoon would soon move to the frontlines and the jutsus needed to be learned quickly.

They found a quiet clearing at the edge of the camp where the noise of the army would not interfere with their training.

Kazuma began the first lesson,"Since we would be going to the frontline soon I will be teaching you two C rank jutsus of our clan that would be perfect for you and you would have enough time to learn them if you have even a little bit of talent which from what I have heard about you you surely would have."

Before the actual training started Kazuma asked one more question. "Before we begin would you mind telling me what is the other lineage that you have that might have resulted in the birth of your unique kekkei genkai. The clan would like to know about it."

Shunsui gave him a short snort of amusement and refused at once. "Nope."

He had no intention of handing over the second half of his bloodline information so easily.

Kazuma accepted the refusal with a small sigh. "Very well I guess."

Shunsui knew the older man would still report the confirmed Kurama blood to the clan elders after the teaching was finished.

Revealing that a successful young War Power carried their lineage would bring prestige and political benefit to the Kurama name. That benefit was the real payment for the lessons and Shunsui understood the exchange. He would get the jutsus of the clan and they would get to add last name of Kurama to his name.

Kazuma moved straight into the first technique. "Alright the first genjutsu is Genjutsu: Thousand Voices. This genjutsu would split your voice inside the victim's mind into hundreds of different voices coming from every direction. It could give the target an extreme headache and even before if he or she manages to break the genjutsu, the headache would persist for a few seconds."

Shunsui listened carefully and already began planning how the technique would fit into his fighting style. He could be locked in combat with an enemy who was trying to form hand seals for a ninjutsu.

This jutsu would flood that enemy's mind with a storm of overlapping voices and shatter the concentration needed to finish the seals and the jutsu. The lingering headache would then slow any second attempt.

The second technique was even better. "And the other one is Genjutsu: Echoing Prison which makes it so every sound the target hears is repeated inside their mind. A single footstep becomes ten. A kunai hitting the ground becomes a deafening barrage. Eventually the victim becomes unable to distinguish reality from the echoes."

Shunsui could not help but smile as the full power of the ability settled into his understanding. 'Kurama clan genjutsu is fucking more overpowered than Uchiha's Sharingan genjutsu.'

Visual illusions could be broken by strong chakra or by looking away, but sound lived inside the ears and mind of the target and was far harder to escape while a battle continued around them. It was also difficult to release yourself from these genjutsus.

Shunsui then began the hard work of learning the two jutsus. Kazuma first taught him the proper way to shape chakra into pure sound for the jutsus rather than using hand seals for it.

The lessons lasted from early morning until the light faded each day.

Five days later the time for training ended and the day of departure arrived. The expanded Shadow Platoon prepared to leave the relative safety of the camp and join the frontlines where the main armies of Konoha and Kumo faced each other.

Shunsui looked at his genin teammates who would not be allowed to take part in the frontline fighting.

Genin from Konoha were kept away from the heaviest battles because they did not yet have the power to change the course of large engagements and because the village preferred to let them grow into their full potential rather than lose them too early.

Guy stood in front of Shunsui with tears already shining in his eyes.

Guy's voice rose in a cry. "I am sorry Shunsui I will not be there beside you when you fight out there. My youthful flames are burning so brightly that I want to charge forward and protect every comrade with the power of youth yet the rules say a genin must stay behind. It feels like my entire spirit is being held back by invisible chains."

"I have trained every morning and every night so that I could stand equal to you on the battlefield and now I must watch you leave without me." He wiped his face with the sleeve of his green jumpsuit and continued without pausing for breath.

"Please do not forget the power of youth while you are out there. Remember that every drop of sweat we shared in training still lives inside your muscles. If you feel tired think of your rival Guy doing a thousand push ups in your honour. I will stay here and become so strong that the next time we meet, I will be strong enough to accompany you to the frontlines."

Shunsui listened to the entire speech while patting Guy on his shoulders to calm him down and then answered in a calm and reassuring voice. "Do not worry about me Guy. I can take care of myself and besides Choza sensei is with me."

Choza placed a large hand on Shunsui's shoulder and spoke, "Let's go Shunsui." The young chunin nodded once and turned to wave a final goodbye to both Genma and Guy.

His eyes sharpened with focus as he prepared himself to experience a true battlefield for the first time.
