After travelling through the Land of Hot Water and then circling back to the Land of Fire, they reached the city of Fujimihara.
The journey had taken several days of movement through forests and less travelled paths so that no one would notice the group of Konoha shinobi.
Now they stood among the trees and looked at the city that rose in front of them. The city was covered with tall walls made of thick stone.
Now you might wonder why the walls were even there. In fact every major city in the world had such walls. While shinobi could scale these walls with ease, the walls were used to stop normal civilians from illegally entering the city as well as to stop any chakra animals from wandering inside the city.
The walls also gave the people living inside a feeling of safety during times of peace and a first line of defence during times of war.
On the walls stood Kumo shinobi on every side keeping an eye on everything. The Cloud Village guards walked back and forth along the top of the stone walls and watched the open ground below.
Even inside the walls, some of the Kumo shinobi patrolled in small groups near the wall according to the sensors.
Their presence made it clear that the city was firmly under Kumo control and that any open approach would be noticed at once.
As Shunsui looked at the city walls, he could not help but think, 'Can I use my shikai to play Clash of Clans? How would that even work though. The game was also I guess thirteen plus, would it be considered a children's game?'
He imagined giant walls rising from the ground and little troops marching forward. 'Forget it. My shikai range is limited. Even if my shikai could create the game, my shikai would not be able to create the game as for the game to work it would have to cover the entire city.' Shunsui thought about the problem carefully.
He could not help but think it would be better if he were able to summon troops with his chakra that would act as elixir. He could have summoned wall breakers to break the walls and then send golems out to tank the damage and then wizards and hogriders.
'I will have to test it someday how games like Clash of Clans work.' Shunsui thought. The idea stayed in his mind as a future experiment for when the war was over.
They were about three hundred and fifty metres away from the city hiding behind trees. The thick forest gave them good cover and the leaves above blocked most of the sunlight.
As for why the sensors have not sensed them yet, it was because of the fifth and final jonin of the platoon.
The fifth jonin who led and supported the group were Shinto Nara, Yamanaka Chizo, Shinku Yuhi, Choza Akimichi and Hiori Aburame. Each of them brought a special skill that made the Shadow Platoon stronger than a normal unit of the same size.
Hiori as an Aburame was pretty skilful and talented. She was on the battalion for one specific technique.
A variant of the Insect Jamming Technique. The insect jamming technique allowed Aburame clan members to scatter their destructive or tracking bugs to emit false chakra signals and static, heavily confusing and misdirecting enemy sensor ninja.
But she specialised in another variant of kikaichu. A mutated variant born from them feeding on her chakra. The technique was called Insect Veil Technique.
Unlike the standard Insect Jamming Technique, which floods an area with false chakra signatures and static, this technique causes the kikaichu to create a chakra absorbing veil around a target.
Thousands of microscopic kikaichu disperse through the air and cling to the user's clothing, skin, and nearby surroundings. Rather than emitting chakra, the insects continuously feed on the minute traces of chakra that naturally leak from a shinobi's tenketsu.
The swarm then circulates that chakra internally among itself, preventing it from escaping into the environment. To sensor ninja, the target simply becomes a dead spot as though no living person is present.
Unless the target actively releases a large amount of chakra or performs a high output ninjutsu, even experienced sensors perceive nothing more than ordinary terrain.
Shunsui looked at the insects on his skin and he could not help but shiver at the sight of them. Tiny dark shapes crawled slowly across his arms and the back of his hands.
'Don't think of them. Don't think they are creepy. Don't think they are ugly.' Shunsui continuously murmured in his mind.
He tried to keep his face calm so that no one would notice his discomfort. But as he looked at the kikaichu crawling on his skin he shivered again.
'Why do they have to walk so slowly? Why do they have so many legs? Why does one of them keep stopping near my wrist like it is thinking about building a house there?'
He forced himself to breathe slowly. 'They are helpful. They are hiding us. They are not going to crawl into my ears. Please do not crawl into my ears.'
Another small bug moved across his sleeve and he felt a fresh wave of discomfort. 'I can fight jonin. I can play deadly games. I can smile through blood and war. But bugs on my skin will be the thing that finally breaks me.'
He kept the complaints inside his head and only gave a small polite nod when Hiori checked that the veil was still working.
Shinku asked in a quiet voice so that the sound would not travel far. "So what is the plan to get inside the city?"
He looked at Shunsui because the young chunin had said earlier that he had an idea for entering the walls. The rest of the nearby team members also turned their attention toward him and waited for the answer.
Shunsui looked at the south of the city which was covered in forests and there was no clearing present between the city and forest with only a few guards on the walls."
He pointed carefully toward the thicker part of the trees that reached almost to the stone walls. "We move there and be within thirty metres range of the city."
