Shunsui decided to leave the training ground after his pursuit of becoming a sensor ended in failure.
Before Shunsui could leave the Yamanaka training ground, Yamanaka Toru stopped him with a raised hand. "While we cannot work on your sensory jutsu, your sensei had asked me to teach you how to suppress your chakra too."
He looked at Shunsui carefully and continued, "And now I know why he asked me to do it. You are literally announcing your presence to almost every competent sensor within ten kilometers of you. What is with... your level of chakra anyways?" The Yamanaka asked, still trying to comprehend how a young child could have more chakra than him.
'I guess this is what is called being born a monster,' he thought.
Shunsui looked confused at the Yamanaka. He tilted his head slightly under his straw hat. "I do not understand, Toru-san. Is my chakra really that noticeable?"
Yamanaka Toru looked at his confused face and started to explain in a patient but direct tone. "You have so much chakra that you are constantly leaking it out, and in such large amounts that people would think you are going to use a B-rank jutsu at any moment. It is like a bright beacon shining in the middle of the night. Any decent sensor would notice you from very far away."
"I have good enough chakra control," Shunsui replied. "I just created a chakra net, you know. I can even do water walking, tree walking, and chakra augmentation."
"You might have good chakra control, but that control is for when you use chakra for jutsu or outside your body. We will have to teach you how to suppress your chakra and keep it contained inside," Toru said firmly.
Shunsui thought quietly, 'I know that I have high chakra reserves, but is it that much? Hmm, suppressing it would be a good idea if it would just alert other people of my presence from far away.'
The Yamanaka continued, "I am going to teach you how to keep your chakra contained inside your body. It would save the amount of chakra you waste by announcing your presence. I would also teach you how to use that chakra to suppress others."
'Suppress others with chakra? Ah, is it like when Madara appeared and the sensors at the war headquarters felt his immense presence? Or like how shinigami use their spiritual pressure. But I guess it would be a little weaker than spiritual pressure since that pressure literally hits souls,' Shunsui thought.
The lesson lasted for three full hours. Yamanaka Toru explained everything in great detail. First, he taught Shunsui how to pull his leaking chakra back into his body and seal it tightly. It was like closing many small holes in a water bucket.
Shunsui had to focus deeply and imagine his chakra as a calm lake instead of a rushing river. At first, it was extremely difficult. His massive reserves kept trying to spill out again.
Toru corrected his posture, breathing, and mental focus many times. Slowly, Shunsui started to feel the difference. The constant pressure around him began to fade.
Next, Toru taught him how to release controlled bursts of chakra to intimidate or suppress others. This part was easier for Shunsui because of his already high reserves.
He learned to push his chakra outward in waves that could make weaker opponents feel heavy or scared. Toru warned him not to overuse it, as it could drain him quickly if done wrong. By the end of the three hours, Shunsui could keep his chakra mostly contained and give small bursts when needed. He still had a long way to go, but the foundation was set.
As Shunsui left the Yamanaka compound, he felt lighter for some reason. The constant leaking of chakra had stopped for now. He adjusted his straw hat and started walking back toward the main village streets. Suddenly, he heard fast footsteps approaching. Guy came running toward him at full speed.
"Shunsui!! Finally I found you!" Guy shouted, jumping next to him and grabbing his hand. He started running again, pulling Shunsui along with him.
Shunsui sighed deeply. 'He is really too energetic for me.'
"How did you even know where to find me in the whole village?" Shunsui asked while being dragged forward.
"Oh, it was easy!" Guy replied cheerfully. "I just asked around about a boy with a straw hat and pink kimono, and every person I asked knew exactly where you went."
'People don't know true fashion,' Shunsui grumbled under his breath. He could not understand why everyone always commented on his comfortable pink kimono and straw hat. In his opinion, it was the height of traditional fashion.
But apparently in Konoha, it made him as noticeable as a bright pink flower in a field of green grass.
"Where are we even going?" Shunsui asked, trying to keep up with Guy's energetic pace.
"To meet my eternal rival, of course!" Guy said with pure excitement in his voice. His eyes sparkled as if he was talking about the greatest event of his life. "You have to see him, Shunsui! He is the coolest person ever! His silver hair shines like the morning dew, and his skills are unmatched! But one day, I will surpass him with the power of hard work and youth!"
Shunsui allowed himself to be pulled along with a sigh.
Meeting Kakashi this early was unexpected, but he was curious to see the future copy ninja as a child.
