The cough came again, and at a glance, Elara knew the sound had come from the person lying on the bed.
"Did you hear that?" she muttered to no one in particular as she moved closer to the bed. Beside her, Adrian gave a small nod. His gaze remained fixed on Grandpa's face.
Thinking she might have imagined it, Elara took a long look at him, waiting for another sign. Unexpectedly, one of Grandpa's eyelids suddenly twitched. From the slight movement beneath the blanket, she also realized that his fingers had moved. Before she could even turn to tell Adrian what she had noticed, another sharp gasp suddenly escaped Grandpa's lips. That simple sound made her freeze instantly.
"Grandpa," she called softly, but there was no reply.
His movements became a little more noticeable, as if he was trying to respond to something.
