Chapter 37 - The Era of Rebirth

Qi Chu rose slowly into the darkened sky, robes fluttering in the wind heavy with ash and blood.

Across from him hovered the Zombie King—wounded but still proud, his corpse-pale face twisted with fury.

"You think this is the end?" the Zombie King sneered. "Zombies are evolution. We are immortality."

Qi Chu did not argue.

He simply closed his eyes.

The air trembled.

A low hum began—soft, almost tender.

Then it layered. And layered again.

Sound upon sound, frequencies stacking in impossible harmony.

The sky vibrated.

The ground cracked.

The Zombie King's expression changed.

The sound wrapped around him like invisible chains.

"No… this frequency… this is—"

The resonance condensed into a single point.

Then detonated.

The Zombie King shattered from within, his body dissolving into fine gray ash that scattered across the wind.

Silence fell.

And then—

Cheers erupted like thunder.

A week later, the last zombie was hunted down and burned.

The apocalypse was over.

People laughed.

People collapsed.

People cried so hard their bodies shook.

A middle-aged man dropped to his knees in the dirt, clutching the ground.

"It's over… it's finally over…"

Beside him, a woman wiped her tears and whispered, "My daughter didn't make it… but at least no one else has to die."

A young cultivator hugged his teammate tightly.

"We survived extinction."

The other gave a broken laugh.

"We survived because we had them."

His eyes drifted toward the Gu family standing quietly at the edge of the battlefield.

An elderly scholar lifted his head toward the clear sky.

"The heavens didn't abandon us after all."

Lanterns were lit that night.

For the dead.

For the living.

For the future.

After another week of celebration, the Gu family returned to the mountain where everything had begun.

The Gu Mansion was placed once more upon its original ground.

Around it, the villas and residences of the remaining Gu Team members rose in harmony.

Standing at the peak, overlooking valleys once soaked in blood, they felt something rare.

Peace.

Gu Mian exhaled softly.

"We came back."

Gu Ruisheng smiled faintly.

"And this time, we're not running."

Gu Yunchen looked over the horizon.

"This world is ours to rebuild now."

One month later, the final population count was announced.

Ten million.

Out of over two hundred million before the apocalypse.

The number stunned the entire nation.

A council gathering fell silent as the figure was projected in the air.

"Ten million…" someone repeated hollowly.

A woman pressed a hand to her mouth.

"That means… almost everyone…"

Gu Ruisheng's voice was steady.

"It means we carry the weight of those who cannot stand anymore."

Gu Mian added quietly,

"It also means every life now matters more than ever."

No one argued.

With the massive contribution points earned during the war, every survivor was equipped with advanced communication devices—phones, laptops, space bracelets, and jade pendants for cultivation support.

For the first time, no one lacked resources.

Then came the question of governance.

A national assembly was called.

Debates rose immediately.

"Democracy failed us."

"It became corruption."

"It divided us when unity was survival."

An elder stepped forward.

"In times of catastrophe, nations require stability—not debate."

A young cultivator crossed his arms.

"So what are you suggesting?"

"A monarchy," the elder said calmly. "A central figure to unify all factions."

Murmurs spread.

"Who would lead?"

Silence fell.

Then a single voice rose:

"Gu Yunchen."

Another followed.

"He led us through extinction."

"He fought beside us."

"He never abused power."

The voices multiplied.

"Gu Yunchen!"

"Gu Yunchen!"

Gu Yunchen remained silent until the noise settled.

"If I accept," he said, "it will not be to rule over you—but to guard what we have built."

A woman in the crowd smiled through tears.

"That's why it must be you."

The decision was unanimous.

Gu Yunchen became Emperor of Hua Country.

Gu Ruisheng was appointed Crown Prince Regent—until the true Crown Prince would one day be born.

Gu Ruisheng chuckled lightly.

"So now I wait for grandchildren?"

Gu Mian laughed.

"Father, patience is a virtue."

Gu Yunchen bowed slightly to the people.

"We will not repeat the mistakes of the past."

The crowd knelt—not out of fear, but trust.

The first council convened under open sky.

"What do we build first?" someone asked.

"A palace?" another suggested.

Gu Mian shook her head.

"No."

Gu Yunchen nodded toward her.

"We rebuild knowledge."

A historian brightened instantly.

"Yes! Without memory, we are doomed to repeat destruction."

And so the first buildings erected were not a palace nor a court—

But a Library and a Museum.

They named them simply:

The National Library and Museum.

They were colossal, breathtaking structures of white stone and spirit glass.

With Mana and Spirit Qi, construction moved at miraculous speed.

Gu Mian personally placed two copies of every book she had ever acquired into the archive, keeping only one for herself and one reserved for the future royal library within her space.

Researchers poured into the building like starving minds finding food.

"We're not just surviving anymore," one scientist whispered in awe.

"We're advancing."

Two years later, the capital stood complete.

Every single human possessed a home registered in their name.

And not small dwellings—

They were estates, grand enough to rival ancient palaces.

The ground roads were paved with luminous blue stone—intended for spirit beasts and livestock.

Vehicles traveled through the sky, powered by Mana, Spirit Qi, Solar, or Lunar energy.

There were three aerial lanes for cars and five massive railway lines stretching across the nation.

Trains longer than cities.

Every province connected.

Even distant Y Province.

A massive ranch was constructed, stocked generously with livestock released from the Gu family's private spaces.

Five mini libraries were established throughout the capital, filled with replicated texts through enhanced printing arrays.

Knowledge was no longer scarce.

It was protected.

When all was complete, the coronation ceremony was held.

They kept the name Hua Country.

But the flag was changed.

It bore the image of Gu Ruisheng riding his pegasus, captured mid-stride.

Every strand of the creature's black fur was embroidered meticulously into the fabric.

When the banner rose into the sky, the crowd cheered until their voices broke.

To mark the new era, Gu Mian and her siblings established two television stations and one radio station.

The television channels played films and animations day and night.

The radio filled homes with music.

Laughter returned to the land.

Two months later, Gu Yunchen gathered his family in the main hall.

"It's time," he said.

"For what?" Gu Ya asked gently.

"The Hundred Refinement Technique."

Gu Ruisheng folded his arms thoughtfully.

"If we teach everyone, this nation will never be defenseless again."
