Chapter 40 - The Black Sea

Six months had passed since the fleet first set sail to cleanse the oceans.

During those months, countless monsters and zombie beasts had been eliminated. The warriors of W City had gradually grown accustomed to life on the sea.

Day after day, battleships sailed across endless waves, stopping wherever the scanners detected unusual energy or mutated sea creatures.

The warriors had already fought everything from giant zombie sharks to massive mutated squids that could wrap around entire ships.

However, nothing could have prepared them for what they saw that day.

At first, it was one of the patrol ships that noticed it.

"Captain! Something strange ahead!" a young soldier shouted from the observation deck.

Gu Ruisheng, who commanded the fleet in that area, stepped forward and looked through a long-range scope.

The sea ahead… was black.

Not dark blue.

Not shadowed by clouds.

But completely black, like a pool of ink stretching endlessly into the distance.

Gu Ruisheng frowned.

"Slow down the ships."

The fleet gradually reduced speed.

Even the wind seemed to quiet down as the massive battleships approached the strange water.

"What the hell is that?" one of the officers muttered.

"I've never seen anything like it."

"Is it pollution?"

"Impossible. The ocean current would have diluted it long ago."

The surface looked normal at first glance, but once they got closer, the difference was unmistakable. The water absorbed light instead of reflecting it. It looked thick and ominous.

Gu Ruisheng immediately gave an order.

"Stop the fleet. No one moves forward."

Moments later, the command echoed across dozens of ships.

Engines slowed.

The ships came to a halt at the edge of the black sea.

Everyone stood silently on the decks, staring at the terrifying sight.

After a moment, Gu Ruisheng spoke again.

"Bring up a water sample."

A soldier nodded and quickly lowered a reinforced sampling container into the dark water.

When it was pulled back up, the liquid inside the glass container was pitch black.

One of the researchers on board stared in disbelief.

"That's impossible…"

Gu Ruisheng looked at him.

"What is it?"

The researcher swallowed nervously.

"Water shouldn't look like this… not even deep ocean water."

They quickly rushed the sample into the mobile laboratory inside the ship.

The testing began immediately.

Minutes passed.

Then more minutes.

Finally, one of the scientists suddenly shouted.

"My god!"

Everyone inside the lab froze.

"What did you find?"

The scientist turned slowly toward Gu Ruisheng.

His face had turned pale.

"The virus concentration…"

"What about it?"

"It's extremely high."

"How high?"

The scientist hesitated before speaking.

"At least one hundred times stronger than the virus density we've seen anywhere else."

The room fell silent.

Gu Ruisheng's eyes narrowed.

"So the ocean… has become a virus nest."

Another scientist nodded grimly.

"This entire sea region is infected."

Someone whispered in disbelief.

"That much virus… how many zombie sea beasts must be inside there?"

Another scan report suddenly appeared.

The monitoring screen displayed countless moving signals.

Everyone's expressions changed instantly.

"There are… millions of life signals."

Even Gu Ruisheng felt his heart sink slightly.

"This isn't just a contaminated area."

"It's a breeding ground."

He immediately turned to the communications officer.

"Contact The Palace."

Inside the Capital City, the emergency meeting room lit up with activity.

Gu Yunchen appeared on the large screen along with several senior commanders.

"What did you find?" he asked calmly.

Gu Ruisheng transmitted the visual feed of the black sea.

The entire room fell silent.

Even Gu Yunchen's usually composed expression changed slightly.

"Report."

"The water contains extremely high levels of zombie virus. The entire region appears infected."

Gu Yunchen looked at the scientists beside him.

"What are the implications?"

One of the senior researchers spoke.

"If left alone, the virus will continue spreading through ocean currents."

"Eventually it could reach coastal areas."

Another scientist added gravely.

"And the beasts inside that area will continue evolving."

Gu Yunchen folded his hands.

"So in other words…If we don't eliminate it now…It will become an unstoppable disaster."

Gu Ruisheng nodded.

"Exactly."

Another commander asked through the communication line.

"How large is the infected area?"

"Approximately two hundred kilometers wide."

Gasps echoed in the meeting room.

One officer muttered.

"That's practically a zombie sea kingdom."

Gu Yunchen remained silent for a moment before speaking.

"What resources do you need?"

Gu Ruisheng replied immediately.

"Jets to deliver heavy weapons."

"Energy ammunition."

"Additional barriers."

"And reinforcement troops."

The room became tense.

One of the administrators hesitated.

"Reinforcement troops? The ocean is extremely dangerous…"

Gu Yunchen spoke calmly.

"This isn't optional, If we allow the infection to spread, the entire world will suffer."

He turned to the others.

"Prepare mobilization orders."

Another officer asked carefully.

"How many troops?"

Gu Yunchen looked at the map again.

Then he answered slowly.

"Everyone."

Later that night, a second massive meeting was held.

Military leaders, city administrators, and scientists all gathered together.

Gu Yunchen spoke first.

"The ocean contains more life than land."

"If the virus fully infects the marine ecosystem…"

"No one on this planet will survive."

The room fell silent.

A general spoke up.

"So what do you suggest?"

Gu Yunchen answered calmly.

"We cleanse it. Completely."

Another commander frowned.

"That will require millions of warriors."

"Exactly."

After a long discussion, a final decision was reached.

Only two million citizens would remain in the country, they would move to W City.

Their responsibility would be to maintain production of food, weapons, medicine, and equipment.

Everyone else…

Would go to war.

When the announcement was broadcast across the city, the reaction was explosive.

In training grounds across all Cities, warriors gathered in groups discussing the news.

"Did you hear?"

"The ocean is infected!"

"So we're finally fighting the big monsters, huh?"

One muscular warrior grinned excitedly.

"I've been waiting for this!"

Another laughed.

"If the sea beasts are stronger, that means their crystals will be stronger too."

Someone else nodded eagerly.

"Exactly! High level zombie crystals!"

Nearby, a young woman clenched her fists.

"I want to break through rapidly again."

Another warrior said confidently.

"We will be given Jade pendants anyway. The virus can't infect us."

A group leader raised his voice.

"Don't underestimate the enemy!"

"This battle will be the largest one since the apocalypse began."

But even as he warned them, excitement spread through the crowd.

Millions of warriors prepared eagerly.

Because they all understood one thing.

Danger also meant opportunity.

Inside a research facility, Gu Mian stood beside several scientists.

Rows of glowing jade pendants lay on a large table.

Each one contained purified high-grade spring water sealed inside special jade.

A researcher said in admiration,

"This spring water is incredible."

"It neutralizes virus particles instantly."

Gu Mian smiled slightly.

"That's why every warrior must carry one."

Another scientist added,

"It also increases oxygen absorption. They can stay underwater much longer."

One of the military officers nodded.

"Perfect for ocean combat."

Production began immediately.

Millions of jade pendants were created.

Every warrior would receive one before boarding the battleship.

A few days later, the harbor of W City was filled with an unbelievable sight.

Hundreds of massive battleships lined the water.

More ships continued arriving from surrounding bases.

Over seven million warriors gathered at the docks.

Gu Yunchen stood on the flagship's command deck beside his husband Mu Qian.

"The sea is exceedingly dangerous "

Gu Yunchen sighed

"I know. But if we don't fight now…There may be no future left to protect."

Soon, the horns sounded.

The fleet began moving.

Thousands of ships sailed out together.

From above, it looked like an iron army marching across the ocean.

Seven days later, the fleet finally reached the infected zone.

The sight stunned everyone.

The black water stretched endlessly across the horizon.

And from beneath the surface…

Low, terrifying roars echoed.

Some sounded like whales.

Others like monstrous reptiles.

But each roar carried immense power.

Across the ships, warriors reacted with excitement.

"Holy hell…"

"Did you hear that?"

One man laughed loudly.

"That beast must have a huge crystal!"

Another warrior grinned.

"I call dibs if it's a giant shark!"

Someone else shouted,

"Just survive first!"

Despite the jokes, everyone felt the pressure.

The sea below them was full of powerful monsters.

All ship commanders gathered for the final meeting.

Gu Ruisheng stood at the center holographic map.

"Our strategy is simple."

"We clear the infection zone sector by sector."

"Teams will fight underwater in squads."

"Battleships provide support fire if necessary."

Another commander asked,

"What about retreat?"

Gu Ruisheng shook his head.

"There is no retreat."

"If the infection spreads, humanity loses."

The room went silent.

Finally someone said firmly,

"Then we finish it here."

Gu Ruisheng nodded.

"Exactly."

Soon, every ship activated its protective barrier.

The glowing shields surrounded the vessels.

Then slowly…

The fleet descended.

Water closed over the decks.

The battleships sank beneath the surface like enormous underwater fortresses.

Inside the ships, warriors prepared their weapons.

One soldier took a deep breath.

"First time fighting underwater."

His friend laughed.

"Just pretend it's flying."

The command finally came through the speakers.

"All combat teams…"

"Deploy."

Hatches opened along the ships.

Millions of warriors swam out into the dark ocean.

The black water surrounded them like night.

And in the distance…

Gigantic shadows began moving.

One warrior whispered,

"They're coming."

Another grinned fiercely.

"Good."

"Let's hunt."

And just like that—

The greatest ocean battle in human history began.
