Chapter 3 - Behind the Glasses (iii)

A day with grey clouds without the interference of the sun's prying eye

The winds were picking up slowly and bits of droplets could be felt prickling the skin. Thunder flashing, but not yet roaring and the clouds threatening to burst at any moment.

"Li Fang, what is it that you wanted to talk about?"

A brief silence washed over us, before she opened her mouth.

"So, what rank are you?" she spoke.

In contrast of my image of her quiet demeanor, her voice had cut through the atmosphere between us, with a loud enough tone.

'Rank...? Does she mean the school-wide exams? Perhaps she was out to scout her competition, but that meant she really is just all focused in on studying.'

Part of me wanted to compliment her on her due diligence, but I didn't

Because I knew more or less she could check on the school bulletin board, so it was obvious she wasn't walking about our exam rank, but something clearly different.

"Rank? What do you mean by that?"

She continued,

"It's alright. I won't kill you if you're honest about this. I need all the information I can get after all. And... you wouldn't happen to be the culprit behind all the black miasma happening around here lately would you?"

She gave a skeptical look at me.

I flinched back at her casual remark of killing me.

'These few moments with her are showing me more emotion than the entire first and now second year I had shared classes with her.'

I opened my mouth after a second before replying,

"I'm not sure what exactly you mean by killing me, nor do I know what a 'rank' is, but I thought we were here for a serious conversation."

She replied back without hesitation,

"THIS IS SERIOUS! People could be dying as we currently speak!"

I flinched again at her words or perhaps her outrage that contrasted once again from her image.

The clouds finally burst with full intensity; filling the brief silence between us with drops falling onto the cold roof floor.

"Fine, don't move."

She took off her glasses, which were wet upon the cloud's outrage, and straightened her left hand into an arrow shape.

Her hand's twisted and her nails grew a grotesquely amount before...

*Rush

She moved fast - inhumanly fast.

She ran right towards me, not giving me any time to react, launching her left hand to the side of my cheek.

Narrowly dodging to the opposite side of her strike, my back slammed against the roof top door.

"Hold on! What's going on! Can't we at least talk things out or explain what's even happening right now?"

"Just stand still and I won't hurt you!"

"Like hell you won't dammit! Put that thing away first, then we'll talk!"

"I said- JUST STAND STILL!"

She rushed again launching the same left hand.

Whether it'd be due to my luck or not, I didn't care in the moment as the door's orientation let me slam open the door against her arrow-formed hand, jamming her arm into it.

Her arm could be seen through the hole that had formed, but I had no time to mind as I quickly rushed in to try to tackle her.

Before I could, her right hand had already been transformed similarly like her left hand as she twisted her body unnaturally towards my face.

As she twisted, she swiped her right hand at me and with my momentum, I couldn't dodge.

'Shit...!'

I closed my eyes before...

Blood spattered -

But surprising not in a large quantity.

It was just my cheek that was slightly grazed.

"Were you..."

"I told you to stand still did I not?"

I recalled her original first attack was at the same spot. She wasn't trying to kill me.

Li Fang was aiming for my cheek from the start, but why she didn't tell me and rushed in I had no clue on.

Her torso twisted back into it's original form in a way I could hear each of her organs return to their original, biological position. She pulled her left arm out of the rusty door, before turning her back to me.

'I feel nauseas...'

She raised her right arm, where there had been a small splatter of my blood on her nails, before what looked like she was licking it.

I didn't see her directly licking my blood, but from her raise of her right arm, it'd suggested she'd done so.

"What the - hey what are yo-"

"A vampire's ability allows them to tell who's blood is pure signifying their intentions and discerning truths from lies."

'A what now???'
