Warm lighting washed over the clothing store's shelves, turning rows of fabric into a glittering, tempting display.
Su Yu stood at the entrance and shifted aside to clear the way. His eyes swept over the rack of this season's new arrivals, then landed on the slightly stiff, uneasy figure beside him.
"After you, Miss Kaslana," he said. "Looks like in this peaceful world, you'll have to learn how to be a proper mannequin."
Before his words even finished, a piercing wave of sound exploded from deeper inside the shop.
"Welco—WHOA!!"
The female clerk behind the counter practically sprang upright like she had a coil spring installed.
Her gaze locked onto the signature white hair, the mismatched irises, and that face so refined it bordered on unreasonable. Her pupils dilated instantly.
"So cute!!"
The enthusiasm hit with actual physical force. The clerk all but slid to a stop in front of them, hands clenched to her chest, eyes shining so brightly it made a person want to call the police.
"This is—no. She's even more dazzling than celebrities on TV!"
She circled Kiana like a satellite, muttering under her breath, her eyes scanning Kiana's proportions as if they were X-rays collecting measurements.
"This ratio, this vibe… the whole world has to witness what peak 'Pink Fairy Miss' fandom looks like!"
Kiana had no idea how to handle this barrage of excitement. She instinctively edged closer to Su Yu.
"Pink Fairy…?" she echoed.
"That top streamer who's been dominating every platform!" the clerk blurted out.
Her hype meter was clearly maxed out—she grabbed Kiana by the wrist in one swift motion.
So fast that even Kiana didn't manage to dodge.
"Miss Elysia! I studied her Complete Outfit Guide for Cute Girls frame by frame! And today I finally found the perfect model!"
Still holding Kiana's wrist, she started hauling her toward the fitting rooms.
"Come, come—let me style you in a few looks! I swear I'll make you so pretty you'll start bubbling!"
Kiana turned back and shot Su Yu a desperate, pleading look.
Su Yu spread his hands and half-joked, "What, you want me to pick everything for you too? Then we'd really look like… you know."
Kiana's face flushed faintly. The discomfort of being grabbed by a stranger was instantly crushed under sheer embarrassment.
"I-I'll choose myself!" She looked away, voice stiff. "You stay right here and don't move… I'll be back soon."
Su Yu glanced at the system panel.
Time Remaining: 12:47
"Watch the time," he reminded her.
Kiana nodded—and then the overenthusiastic clerk dragged her into the fitting area.
Su Yu found a corner seat and pulled out his phone.
A new notification popped up.
The sender's avatar was a pink bow, and the ID read: Pink Fairy Miss♪
Pink Fairy Miss♪: Su Yu-chan~ Don't forget our tiny, sweet little promise tonight, okay?
Pink Fairy Miss♪: You said you'd carry Pink Fairy Miss in Star Counter-Terror~
Pink Fairy Miss♪: Everyone in the stream is waiting to see your god-tier plays Don't keep them waiting too long♪
Staring at that string of text that practically came with its own voice pack, Su Yu's mouth twitched uncontrollably.
Elysia.
One of the famous tenants of Golden Courtyard—and the hottest internet celebrity in this world.
Thanks to Kevin, Su Yu was acquainted with this "Pink Fairy Miss," more or less.
Her content was all over the place: fashion styling, game streams, whatever she felt like. Her follower count was hundreds of times larger than Su Yu's barely-visible presence.
A few days ago, she'd gotten the urge to try an FPS, but she was so terrible at it that she'd gone through Kevin to find Su Yu and begged him to "carry" her on stream.
Su Yu himself was also a small-time streamer. Not famous, barely scraping by—but at least he had some real skill at games.
Fresh out of university, he was in a delicate state—if you wanted to say it nicely, "flexible employment." If you didn't… he was basically unemployed.
His main source of income, in fact, came from another tenant of Golden Courtyard:
Dr. Mobius.
For reasons Su Yu couldn't explain, the doctor took a special interest in him—claiming his brain activity was abnormal, that she wanted to research "the possibilities of human evolution."
Every month she wired him a sum of money and had him come in regularly for brain scans.
Su Yu had no idea whether it was related to the system, but money was money—and only an idiot turned it down—so he'd agreed, half-pushed and half-persuaded.
But now things were different.
The system had activated. Kiana had arrived. And making a game burned money like a furnace.
He needed more income streams.
Su Yu ran the numbers in his head—Tonight when I play with Elysia, I'd better take it seriously.
Ride her traffic a little. Build some exposure for himself.
As he was thinking, his peripheral vision caught the system panel again.
Time Remaining: 00:47
00:46
00:45
"…Crap."
Su Yu shot up from the cushioned stool and sprinted toward the fitting area, three steps at a time.
The fitting-room door was shut tight, warm yellow light leaking through the crack.
He stopped outside, his hand hovering over the handle, a thin sheen of sweat forming at his temples.
"Kiana?"
From inside came a burst of frantic rustling fabric—then Kiana's voice, forced low, trembling with panic.
"W-Wait—why won't it hook—"
00:12
00:11
The red countdown began flashing wildly like a death-sentence alarm.
A clerk carrying an armful of clothes walked up beside him, looking at Su Yu's sweaty face with confusion.
"Sir? Someone's in the fitting room. Please don't—"
00:05
00:04
"Su Yu!!"
Kiana's voice, on the verge of tears, punched right through the door.
The clerk froze.
In the next second, her eyes flicked between Su Yu and the door, and she very sensibly retreated into a blind spot with the clothes hugged to her chest.
00:01
"I—I can't fasten it… can you come help me?"
The clerk blinked once.
Then the corner of her mouth lifted into an expression that said, Oh. I get it.
Su Yu drew a deep breath—and the instant the numbers hit zero, he pushed the door open and went in.
The fitting room was extremely narrow—barely a few square meters—filled with warm air and the particular clean scent of a girl, sweet orange body wash lingering in the heat.
In the split second he rushed in, the first thing he saw was the large full-length mirror.
The reflection showed a figure standing with her back to him.
A waterfall of white hair spilled down over smooth bare shoulders and a taut back, the line from the hollow of her neck trailing down toward her waist, catching the light with a soft, ivory sheen.
And on the floor beneath—
A white bra lay quietly on the tiles.
Which meant…
Right at that moment, the girl standing rigidly with her back to him… wasn't wearing anything on her upper body at all.
