Sophia followed the security officer toward the President's residence. Her mind raced.
Why would Sebastian want to see her this late? She said within her.
She had spent the entire evening trying to stay close enough to protect him without giving the Council anything they could use.
Now she was walking straight into his private quarters. The irony wasn't lost on her.
This was exactly what the Council had wanted from the beginning.
Except not like this.
The officer stopped at the door.
"He's waiting inside."Sophia nodded.
"Thank you." She entered. The sitting room was quiet. Only one lamp was on.
Sebastian stood near the window, jacket removed, sleeves rolled up. Several documents lay scattered across the coffee table. He looked tired. Not presidential.
Just human.
Sophia closed the door behind her.
"You wanted to see me?" Sebastian turned.
"Yes." I did. He pointed toward the chair.
"Please Sit." Sophia sat.
