After fooling around for hours, we left for the riverside, where we had our race. How nostalgic. At this point, I was tired and needed a break. Maya was the same. We sat side by side on the grassy hill. We watched the view as the cold evening breeze blew through our hair.
Today was great, and to think I'm on a mission… oh my, the mission. I will probably get fired for this. Oh well.
Maya yawned with her hands to her mouth. "Today was great."
"My words exactly"
"To think you'd be this fun, Nero." With her knees tucked between her hands, she leaned her head on them and looked my way, grinning, "I just thought you were weird. I didn't know you at all; in fact, you weren't even from there. Yet you followed me all the way to my manor just to sleep with me."
Trying to sleep with you didn't work.
"What can I say…you're very beautiful," I said. Maya flushed, leaned against me, "and you have a wonderful butt."
She backed off immediately, "aahh!! Don't go ruining the moment. What's your problem?"
"It is true. I'm just speaking the truth."
"Okay, okay, I have heard you," she said as she dragged herself back and leaned against me again. This time, putting all her weight on me. Her sweet smell driften passed my nose.
Then she fell silent.
"Still…thank you."
"For what?"
"For following me. You saved my life."
Come to think of it, I did. If I hadn't followed her at the time, she would've been kidnapped before the faction arrived.
So I did do well then, without even meaning to. I just wanted some action, and I ended up dragging the driver into it as well. He died too…But I saved her.
From here, I could only see the top of her head. I wonder what kind of expression she is making. Whatever it is, I'm glad I kept it alive.
"Father had always been telling me. Maya, in this life, we have a lot of enemies. But I didn't heed his words. I didn't run away when he told me to, and it cost Anna and Steph their lives."
"What do you mean? What happened that night, before we met?"
Maya fell silent. She was silent for minutes. I was very curious, but knowing her, pressing her would do nothing. Eventually, she began to speak from the beginning.
She knew the political importance of their family; it had been drilled into her since birth.
However, she did care for that; she only wanted to live free, like a commoner.
Her mother didn't like that, but her father was different. He wanted Maya to live a happy life, so he would have her travel with him whenever possible.
Bringing her to Uno.
However, this only grew the rift between her mother and father. Leading up to that mother had suddenly vanished, and her father began to scramble in panic.
That night, he set for Maya to leave the country with the people he had hired.
She left the manor right before the attack. She desperately clung to stay by her father's side, but it was no use; he wasn't going to have her die here.
Maya's two closest friends were her guards. Steph and Anna, two powerful individuals tasked with seeing her out of the country, were turned back by Maya, unable to take her father's sacrifice.
Seeing the state of the manor sent her heart into a frenzy, but she hoped for her father's well-being, but not long after she arrived back at the manor. She met me.
"I will forever be grateful to you, Nero. I'm sorry for dragging you into this," she began to shake, and her breathing grew heavier.
I was worried, but when I felt the wet sensation on my left arm, I understood. "I just wanted to take Father with me…to save him. And I couldn't even do that…"
Maya struggled to hold back her tears.
The more she talked, the more they fell.
My chest felt tight. I have no idea what to do in this situation, but I think it's better if I do nothing.
Hurting, Maya clung to me tightly and wailed. The sounds of her cries fill the night sky. I couldn't hear anything else.
Maya cried for a long time…then eventually she stopped and fell asleep.
