Seasoned With Love
Season 2 – Episode 14: "The Things You Didn't Tell Me"
Amara's POV
The restaurant was busy again.
Not chaotic busy — the good kind.
The kind where every table is full, people are laughing, and the kitchen rhythm feels like music.
I should've been focused on that.
But my mind kept going back to the conversation Luke and I had that morning about his father.
Something about it still felt unfinished.
Luke was at the end of the bar talking quietly with a man in a suit I didn't recognize.
I watched them for a second.
The man shook Luke's hand like he already respected him.
Not like a customer.
Like someone used to dealing with powerful people.
That caught my attention.
Rose walked up beside me.
"You see it too?" she said.
I nodded slightly.
"Who is that?"
Rose shrugged.
"No idea. But Luke looks like he's in business mode."
I narrowed my eyes slightly.
"He always looks like that."
"No," Rose said. "This is different."
Luke noticed us watching and excused himself from the conversation.
The man left a card on the bar before walking out.
Luke picked it up quickly.
A little too quickly.
Then he walked over to us.
Amara.
Rose.
"Everything okay?" I asked.
Luke nodded.
"Yes."
Rose leaned forward.
"That was a very official-looking conversation."
"Just someone asking about partnerships," Luke said.
I studied him.
"Partnerships like suppliers?"
"Something like that."
Rose gave him a look.
"That was not a supplier handshake."
Luke smiled slightly.
"You two are very observant today."
Rose crossed her arms.
"Luke."
"Yes?"
"What are you not saying?"
Luke exhaled slowly.
Then he looked at me.
Not Rose.
Me.
"Amara… can we talk upstairs later?"
That confirmed it.
"Okay," I said.
Rose immediately grinned.
"Oh this is good."
Luke sighed.
"Rose."
"I'm not leaving the building," she said.
"That's not what I asked."
She laughed and walked away.
"Good luck," she called over her shoulder.
Luke rubbed his forehead slightly.
"This is going to be a conversation."
"Yes," I said calmly. "It is."
Later That Night
We were upstairs again.
It's funny how the apartment above the restaurant has become our quiet truth room.
Luke stood near the window.
I sat on the couch watching him.
"You've been thinking about how to say this," I said.
"Yes."
"Then just say it."
Luke turned toward me.
"I'm not just comfortable financially."
I blinked.
"That's not surprising."
He shook his head.
"No, Amara. I mean… I'm extremely wealthy."
I stared at him.
Silence.
Not because I didn't understand.
Because I was processing.
"How wealthy?" I asked carefully.
Luke hesitated.
"Enough that I could have bought this entire block years ago."
That landed.
Hard.
I leaned back slightly.
"Luke…"
He didn't interrupt.
Which I appreciated.
I ran a hand through my hair.
"So all this time… when we were worrying about bills, repairs, expansions…"
"I was careful not to control the situation with money," he said.
"That's not the same as telling me the truth."
"You're right."
I looked at him.
"You wrote checks for the restaurant."
"Yes."
"But those checks were… small compared to what you actually have."
"Yes."
I stood up slowly.
Not angry.
But definitely surprised.
"That's a big thing to keep quiet about."
"I know."
"Why?"
Luke answered honestly.
"Because I didn't want you to think I was trying to buy my place in your life."
That softened me a little.
But I still needed clarity.
"Luke… do you understand how that feels from my side?"
"Yes."
"Say it."
He didn't hesitate.
"It feels like I kept a major part of myself hidden."
"Exactly."
Luke nodded slowly.
"I deserve that."
I walked closer to him.
"Are you a billionaire?"
Luke actually laughed.
"No."
"Millionaire?"
"Yes."
"How many millions?"
Luke paused.
"Enough that money stopped being the goal a long time ago."
I stared at him.
"You're really saying that sentence inside a restaurant we built from scratch."
"I know how that sounds."
I crossed my arms slightly.
"Luke."
"Yes."
"You could have made this place successful overnight."
"Yes."
"But you didn't."
"No."
"Why?"
His answer came quietly.
"Because I wanted to build something real with Amara."
That made it harder to stay upset.
Still…
"You should have trusted me with the truth."
"You're right."
I looked at him carefully.
"You thought I'd see you differently."
"Yes."
I thought about that.
Then shook my head.
"I do see you differently."
His face tightened slightly.
But I continued.
"Not worse."
He waited.
"Just… clearer."
Luke exhaled.
"That's fair."
I sat back down.
"This explains a lot."
"What?"
"The way people talk to you sometimes."
"The way you negotiate deals."
"The way you never panic financially."
Luke smiled slightly.
"I do panic sometimes."
"I've never seen it."
"That's because you're usually the one calming me down."
I laughed quietly.
Then my expression softened again.
"Does Rose know?"
"Yes."
I nodded slowly.
"Of course she does."
Luke sat across from me now.
"Are you angry?"
I thought about it honestly.
"No."
"Really?"
"I'm surprised. A little frustrated. But not angry."
"Why?"
"Because you didn't use it to control anything."
Luke nodded slowly.
"That mattered to me."
"It matters to me too."
Silence settled between us again.
Then I asked the question that really mattered.
"Luke… if your father buys the building… could you stop him easily?"
Luke looked at me.
"Yes."
That answer hung in the air.
"So this whole time," I said slowly, "we've been worried about something you could fix with one call."
"Yes."
I leaned back.
"That's… a lot to process."
"I know."
Then I smiled slightly.
"You're lucky I love you."
Luke laughed.
"I was hoping that would still be true."
"It is."
Then I pointed at him.
"But from now on, no more financial secrets."
"Agreed."
"And Luke?"
"Yes?"
"If you ever try to secretly buy the restaurant to 'protect me,' I will be very mad."
He grinned.
"Noted."
Just then there was a knock on the door.
Rose's voice came through.
"Did she find out yet?"
Luke sighed.
I laughed.
"You can come in, Rose."
Rose opened the door and immediately looked between us.
"Well?"
I pointed at Luke.
"He's secretly very rich."
Rose nodded proudly.
"I told you."
I squinted at her.
"You knew and didn't tell me?"
Rose shrugged.
"That was his story to share."
I looked back at Luke.
"You owe me a long conversation about everything you didn't say."
Luke nodded.
"You'll get it."
And for the first time since learning the truth…
I realized something important.
This wasn't just about money.
It was about trust.
And whether Luke and I could keep choosing honesty — even when the truth changed how we saw each other.
But one thing was clear.
This relationship just entered a whole new chapter.
