Chapter 5 - The School

Jason stepped down from the bus without a word and gazed up at the school where he had spent some of the worst years of his life. He took a deep breath, hoisted up his bag on his shoulders, and walked into the huge school doors.

He made his way to his locker, surprised he even remembered his combination, and placed his books inside, removed the ones he needed, and slammed the door shut.

Suddenly, a notification flashed in front of him, and he immediately looked at it.

[Quest: The host must create a gang with at least two members. The host must also find a hideout to host activities that must be hidden from the public and law enforcement agencies.]

[Reward: Silver Gift Package.]

[Members: 0/2]

'It looks like the Gangster System didn't just want me to be a gangster but I should form my own.' Jason thought, finally understanding what the system was created for. 'The problem now is, where can I find two people who will even follow me?'

'And also, I'm going to be engaging in illegal activities. I never signed up for this.'

He began to walk to his class, Marcus had already said goodbye and gone to his own class for the morning. He walked forward making sure that he didn't draw attention to himself. He was still thinking about what to do when he remembered something.

"I just remembered I have money now." He thought. "Since I'm basically a time traveller, I know people who became famous for various reasons. I just remembered him. How could I forget?"

He knew what he had to do, as soon as he was done with classes, he would go to the place where his first target stayed. Lost in thought, he accidentally bumped into someone and he stumbled, crashing the figure to the ground.

"Oh, man. I'm so sorry." Jason spoke, immediately helping the person up. It was a girl.

"Don't worry about it." The girl replied with a bored sigh as she walked away. He had just recognised her and was not for the good reasons. Her name was Maria Tevez, and how he knew about her was about the incident that would happen five months later in this school. The day she was murdered on the school premises. Her killer was never found.

Jason stared after as she walked into the distance. He was going to find out why she was targeted, and if it meant becoming closer to her, then he would absolutely do it.

He made his way to his class, his eyes looking over the room. He didn't see the person he desperately wanted to avoid if he could help it.

'Looks like Terry is not in school.' Jason thought, sitting down on the seat. 'Well, today is going to be a little more bearable.'

"Oh, this imbecile is here again." A girl's voice rang out. "He looks so pathetic."

Jason didn't bother turning to the voice because he knew who it was all about. Him, of course. He wasn't going to give them the satisfaction they wanted. He watched as the class laughed while some girls were giving him disgusting looks. He didn't say a word.

Suddenly, he felt a smack to the back of his head and he winced. It was Cameron behind him. He had started again.

"Looks like your rich bodyguard isn't here to protect you, ain't that right, buddy?" Cameron grinned as he repeatedly kept on smacking his head. "So I was wondering if you would come to the back of school after classes today so we can hang out. What do you say?"

Jason didn't utter a word.

Cameron frowned and sprang up, latching onto his hair and making him wince. "I'm talking to you, you lowlife.! When did you grow the balls?"

Jason was about to speak when the door opened saving him. It was the teacher coming in from class. Cameron immediately detached from him.

The teacher stared at Cameron with a suspicious look on his face. "Is anything going on, Cameron?"

Cameron just shrugged. "Not at all, teach. Just messing around. " He sat back in his own chair. Jason breathed a sigh of relief as the teacher started the lesson. He was just about to punch the bastard in his face. He hated being treated like this, but he knew it was not going to be for long.

As soon as the bell rang for the end of class, Jason immediately got up and walked out of the class. He wasn't going to wait for Cameron to start his shenanigans again.

"You can run, loser!" Cameron taunted, holding a girl in his lap. "But you can't hide!"

'Fuck you!' Jason cursed at him, in his head.

He walked out, ready to get his bag and start the quest the system had given him when he suddenly got a chill around his body and felt soft arms wrap around him. His spine tingled with panic and he felt the sudden urge to yell.

He saw students looking at him, some with jealousy, amusement, and disgust mixed together.

"How is that bitch still with Amelia " A girl murmured to her friend.

"Relax," her friend replied. "It's basically a social experiment or dare that she is doing. It'll all be over soon."

Jason frowned in anger but he slowly turned with a soft smile on his face as he gazed at the stunning woman holding onto him. The lowlife that had ruined him, that had made him miserable, that had lied to him. He was facing her.

"Hello, babe." Those words nearly made him throw up. He didn't want to look at her or even be near her but he had to. He had no choice. He turned and smiled at her.

"Good evening, Amelia." He spoke softly. "It's good to see you."

Amelia smiled back, but internally, she couldn't believe her ears. 'Did he just call me by my real name? This bitch! Why? He's never done that before.'

Amelia shook her head and latched onto his arm, pressing her soft bosom against his arm. "You're so mean. I called you today and you didn't pick up. Why? You had me worried"

Normally, the trick she did just now usually made Jason's brain short-circuit, but not this time. "My battery is dead right now. Forgot to charge it. There hasn't been power in my place."

Amelia nodded, that answer meant that there was no electricity in his place due to being poor. 'This imbecile is really pathetic.'

She smiled and began to drag him to the canteen. "Come on, let's eat together. I have a lot of things to say to you. Terry also wants to talk to you after school."

Jason allowed her to pull him, noticing the mutters of the students in the hallway. He knew what they were talking about, like how Amelia was still dating a loser like him.

'Well, not for long.' He thought as she pulled him. "Time to wash my hands off her. For good.'

He had made up his mind, but he didn't notice Marcus was looking at him as he was being pulled, and there was a huge frown on his face.

Marcus watched Jason get dragged away, and he walked off in the opposite direction, with one thought in his mind.

'I could see the disgust in his face.' He thought. 'I'm no genius but I can tell he doesn't like her anymore. But he was just fawning over her yesterday. What's going on with him?'
