Chi Zhenxiong had originally wanted to scare Xue Hui and keep him in check a little, knowing full well that Xue Hui was too reckless in his actions. This was evident from the fact that Xue Hui had killed Shen Han despite knowing that Chi Zhenxiong was watching, and just recently, Xue Hui had gone and injured Niu Batian.
But to Chi Zhenxiong's surprise, Xue Hui seemed completely unaffected by his immense spiritual pressure.
Furthermore, he could sense that Xue Hui had increased his cultivation by a large margin, bringing his strength to the very bottleneck of the Black Gold-rank Demon Spiritualist realm.
Regardless of his surprise, Chi Zhenxiong continued to maintain the pressure on Xue Hui. With a huff, Chi Zhenxiong increased the amount of spiritual energy he released, causing an ocean-like pressure to descend upon the room.
Only then did Xue Hui begin to show signs of strain, as his soul force started to swell under the bombardment.
"Boy, tell me, what made you think that putting my granddaughter in danger wouldn't warrant your death? What's stopping me from sending you straight to the Blizzard Mountain Bull Clan to clear my granddaughter's name from the mess you created?" Chi Zhenxiong remarked, a faint killing intent leaking from him.
Chi Zhenxiong narrowed his eyes when he saw that Xue Hui had merely smiled at him, "Senior, you're taking this too seriously. We both know that sending me to the Blizzard Mountain Bull Clan wouldn't stop them from taking action against your Red-Scaled Winged Naga Clan. Not to mention, I did what I did to protect Chi Mei's dignity. If you were in my place at that time, you would have killed Niu Batian without hesitation," Xue Hui reasoned, his voice sounding strained under the weight of the soul pressure bearing down on him.
Hearing his words, Chi Zhenxiong scoffed and withdrew his spiritual energy, allowing Xue Hui to heave a sigh of relief.
Truth be told, Chi Zhenxiong didn't give a damn about the Blizzard Mountain Bull Clan. Every single great clan had always been a thorn in the existence of the Red-Scaled Winged Naga Clan. With or without Xue Hui starting anything, his clan would always be harassed by them.
Furthermore, Xue Hui had hit the mark about him killing Niu Batian. After finding out what Niu Batian had said to his granddaughter, his desire to go out there and personally tear Niu Batian apart had only grown with every passing moment.
One should know that Chi Mei was the pride and joy of Chi Zhenxiong.
"Boy, tell me, how did you and Mei'er stumble upon each other?" Chi Zhenxiong asked in a curious tone, trying to shift the topic away from his grim thoughts of killing Niu Batian.
"It was purely by accident. I was heading to the Heavenly Fate Plateau when I saw her, half-dead, in the hands of a Demon Lord," Xue Hui explained.
"S-she's what!?" Chi Zhenxiong exclaimed, never expecting that his precious granddaughter had come so close to being killed.
"Oh, don't worry. The Demon Lord and his people are all gone. I even made sure his soul would never cease to exist," Xue Hui assured him, stopping Chi Zhenxiong from erupting into rage.
Chest heaving, Chi Zhenxiong took a moment to compose himself. With so many things piling up on his plate, he could feel a massive headache creeping up on him.
"How about you? Don't tell me you came here to exact your revenge against the Demon Beast Clans? With your current strength, the only thing you'll accomplish is getting yourself killed," Chi Zhenxiong remarked. To him, what Xue Hui was doing was simply courting death.
To his irritation, Xue Hui only chuckled at his words, completely disregarding his warning.
"I have my own methods. Since I came here willingly, naturally, I have a way to get out of here alive."
"You're really ignoring the fact that you're currently talking to a Grand protector of the Demon Beast Clans, huh? Boy, you know very well that I have every reason to kill you right here and now," Chi Zhenxiong scoffed, utterly baffled by Xue Hui's audacity. He genuinely wanted to crack open Xue Hui's skull just to see what was going on inside that head of his.
"I would be worried about you bringing me in if I hadn't already learned about the conflict between your clan and those so-called great clans. From everything I've learned so far, they seem more interested in destroying your clan than in destroying Glory City. How did this kind of enmity between your clans begin anyway?"
Xue Hui asked, causing a grim expression to appear on Chi Zhenxiong's aged face.
A moment passed before Chi Zhenxiong let out a weary sigh. He sat down on one of Chi Mei's chairs, looking melancholy.
"Contrary to everyone's beliefs, humans and demon beasts can coexist with each other, working together to support one another and living together in complete harmony. The great sin my Red-Scaled Winged Naga Clan committed? We simply chose to protect our friends."
His words made Xue Hui raise an eyebrow, a look of interest appearing on his face.
"Back in the day, our ancestors lived on a mountain inhabited by humans. But instead of fighting each other over territory and resources, they found common ground and began working together. This relationship lasted for hundreds of years, with the humans treating our ancestors as guardian deities." Chi Zhenxiong's brows knitted as a shadow crossed his face while he continued his story.
"It was a fulfilling role, so much so that when a Demon Beast Clan began attacking humanity, our ancestors chose to fight side by side with their human friends. But in the end, the Demon Beast Clan proved to be too powerful, and our ancestors were eventually forced to submit as they watched their human friends being slaughtered."
A shaky breath escaped Xue Hui. He had never expected the Red-Scaled Winged Naga Clan to have such a close bond with humanity.
"Once the Demon Beast Clan had eradicated almost all of humanity, our clan, along with a few others, was turned into a slave clan as punishment for siding with humans. As for the great clans, they became the closest allies of the current Demon Beast Clan patriarch. Their role was simple: to maintain the stability of the entire Demon Beast Clan by keeping the other clans in check, especially the slave clans."
After finishing recounting the history of his clan, Chi Zhenxiong stood up and walked toward the door.
"Follow me. This is not the suitable place to continue our conversation."
As he glanced back, he was shocked to see that Xue Hui's appearance had transformed into that of a member of the Red-Scaled Winged Naga Clan.
Only then did Chi Zhenxiong remember that everyone had described Xue Hui as a member of his Red-Scaled Winged Naga Clan.
"So that's how you change your appearance, by using the Law of Dreams. That was clever of you," Chi Zhenxiong remarked, sensing the lingering traces of the Law of Dreams emanating from Xue Hui. He was shocked to learn that Xue Hui possessed multiple Power of laws at such a young age.
As the two walked down the hall, Chi Mei, who had managed to compose herself, spotted them approaching. She hurried her steps, fully intending to join them.
"Mei'er, go and speak with your mother and father. They've been worrying about you like crazy."
Chi Mei paused in her steps, a troubled look appearing on her face. Her eyes shifted toward Xue Hui, a glint of unwillingness flashing in them.
Xue Hui saw this, and a gentle smile stretched across his lips.
"Go ahead, babe. I'll go and pay my respects to your father and mother later. For now, I'll have a talk with your grandfather about the matter of our wedding," Xue Hui teased, causing another wave of heat to creep across Chi Mei's face.
"Who are you calling babe? Xue Hui, you're such a rogue! Call me that one more time and see if I don't break every bone in your body!" Chi Mei snapped, her face burning with embarrassment. She stomped her feet in anger before turning away, doing her best to keep her grandfather from seeing her flushed red face.
Chi Zhenxiong's eyebrow rose. Ever since Chi Mei was born, this was the first time he had seen his granddaughter this flustered. Usually, she always kept her composure, no matter what circumstances she found herself in.
Still, Chi Zhenxiong simply shook his head and continued walking, prompting Xue Hui to follow his lead.
Meanwhile, in the heart of the Demon Beast Clan's territory, a group of Demon Beast experts stood guard by a large body of water, waiting for the patriarch to arrive
It didn't take long before a white-haired man with an excellent physique landed near the guards, carrying an oppressive aura that made everyone around him lower their heads.
"So it's true that the Immortal Tortoise Realm is opening another inheritance trial. And it just so happens to coincide with the Demon God Sect pressuring us. What a troublesome coincidence," the man muttered, a glint of interest flashing through his eyes.
"But I guess this is also the perfect opportunity for me to break through to the next rank," the man continued. "You, pass this news to every clan. The inheritance trial will begin in the following days. Each clan has to send a representative no more than sixty years of age," the man ordered, prompting one of the Legend-rank Demon Beasts to lower his head before leaving.
The white Haired man remained by the side of the Emerald Lake, watching as the entire lake was fully submerged in thick fog.
