Chapter 32 - Unexpected Visitors: Leroy Chats with the Demon King

The store had mostly recovered from the chaos of the night before, though faint scorch marks and scattered cups still hinted at the mayhem. Leroy leaned casually against a shelf, arms crossed, eyes scanning the room, yet somehow zeroing in on Vario.

Vario's crimson eyes followed him, wings folding slightly as a low rumble echoed in his chest. "What do you want?" he asked, voice calm but laced with a warning that few dared to ignore.

Leroy's grin widened, easy and unbothered. "I came to see my wife's workplace… but it seems I got more than I expected." He gestured subtly to the shelves, the disarray, the faint hum of supernatural energy lingering in the air. "You… you're different from what I imagined."

Vario's shadow twisted, as if reacting to the tension in the air. "Different how?" His gaze was sharp, cautious.

Leroy leaned a little closer, lowering his voice. "Confident. Dangerous. Loyal. And… protective. I can see why Feria chose you, even if it wasn't exactly… romantic at first glance."

Vario's eyes flickered, a faint heat rising in his aura. "You speak as if you know everything about me."

"Not everything," Leroy said, tilting his head, emerald eyes steady. "But enough to understand that you care for her. Deeply. Even if you don't say it."

Vario's claws flexed at his sides, shadows shifting with subtle agitation. "…And you?" he asked, voice low, curious despite himself. "Do you trust her choice… in me?"

Leroy chuckled softly, shaking his head. "Trust? It's not about trust. It's about understanding. I know Feria. She's strong, decisive, and doesn't waste time on nonsense. If she sees something in you, I accept it. But it doesn't mean I won't watch… carefully."

The air between them was heavy, a strange tension born not from hostility but from mutual respect and understanding. Vario tilted his head slightly, the shadowy aura around him pulsing with a subtle warmth he didn't usually allow himself to show.

"You understand her," he said finally, voice quieter, almost reverent. "More than most. Even more than I do at times."

Leroy's grin softened into a faint smile. "That's why I married her. And why I'm willing to tolerate… even this chaotic convenience store scenario." He gestured to the slightly askew shelves, Nyx fidgeting with her Beybroll, and Bella calmly analyzing her whiskey glass. "You… fit in here better than I expected, Vario. But don't think I won't hold you accountable for keeping her safe."

Vario let the shadows around him settle, wings folding fully now. "…I will. Always."

Leroy nodded approvingly. "Good. Then we understand each other."

The two men shared a brief, silent acknowledgment of mutual respect—different worlds, different lives, yet both bound by one unshakable truth: their devotion to the one they loved.

From the corner of the store, Nyx snorted. "Wow. I leave the room for two minutes and suddenly it's all intense, dramatic vibes. Can we go back to cleaning up spilled cup noodles now?"

Bella just sipped her whiskey, smirking faintly. "Let them talk. Some lessons take a little… ceremony."

Vario allowed a single, almost imperceptible nod. Leroy grinned, and for a moment, the chaos of the convenience store faded into the background, leaving only the quiet, unspoken understanding between warriors and husbands.
