Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: Changes in the Land of Snow

"Amazing! It feels like a completely different thing from the old Geothermal Generator!" Fukaboshi Koyuki looked curious as she walked forward and touched it all over.

Then, she looked at this strange-looking machine hovering about a meter in the air. After tapping it a few times, she asked in confusion, "Dr. Vegapunk, why doesn't this machine have a switch?"

The entire exterior of the machine appeared to be a disk formed by a seamless, streamlined shell. There were no wires, no switches, and nothing that looked like a control.

"Don't worry, I designed the entire machine for autonomous operation. No one can control it except me. This is also to prevent it from falling into the hands of those with ill intentions!"

Vegapunk said with a smile, manipulating the magnetic field to start the machine. A soft humming sound echoed, and then a faint glow spread from the entire machine.

Wherever the glow touched, the snow melted and spring returned to the earth. A thin layer of green grass quickly grew on the ground, stretching to the horizon like a green carpet.

"It's so beautiful! This must have been my father's wish all along!" Looking at the beautiful scenery before her, Fukaboshi Koyuki couldn't help but sigh with emotion, a joyful smile appearing on her young face.

Even though she was still just a child, she could clearly understand what this scene meant for the Land of Snow. With a piece of land that could actually be cultivated, the Land of Snow would finally usher in a period of rapid development.

Actually, strictly speaking, although the Land of Snow had a harsh environment and was remotely located, it couldn't be called a truly poor country.

The Land of Snow had rich underground iron and coal mines. It was by relying on these abundant mineral resources that the residents could engage in foreign trade, exchanging them for the food they needed to survive, and using coal for heating to endure the harsh winters.

Furthermore, because the original Land of Snow Daimyo was himself a genius researcher, the country placed great importance on technological development. The later development of trains, airships, Chakra Armor, and other technologies was closely related to the country's technological level and natural resources.

If this world didn't have Chakra, if the Land of Snow could truly endure decades of hardship to climb the technology tree, it might actually have had a chance to step onto the world stage and become a protagonist.

Unfortunately, this was a world where supernatural powers existed. Relying on the late World War I-level military technology developed by the Land of Snow, they were clearly no match for the Ninjas. Unable to plunder externally to make up for its own deficiencies, the Land of Snow would always remain a remote little country.

But now with the Geothermal Generator, the Land of Snow no longer needed to import food, cotton, and other crops from outside. With its most significant flaw addressed, the entire country truly had the confidence to step out into the world.

The young Fukaboshi Koyuki couldn't think that far ahead, but she knew how desperately the citizens of the Land of Snow craved food and cultivable land. Such a piece of fertile land, equivalent to that of some medium-sized countries, would bring about incredible changes to the Land of Snow.

"The range of influence is slightly larger than predicted. However, this machine will operate in half-year cycles. In other words, this climate will only exist on this land for six months, while the original climate will return for the other six months."

Vegapunk explained to Fukaboshi Koyuki. However, for most crops, six months was actually enough, and the remaining six months would allow the soil to rest.

By halving the time for the same amount of energy, the range of influence naturally doubled. Comparatively, this method was naturally more scientific.

"This is already very good..." Fukaboshi Koyuki said with a smile. "Thank you, Doctor, for fulfilling my father's and my wish!"

"There are no purified radioactive elements here. Otherwise, I could have made a small Nuclear Fusion Solar Furnace. That is true infinite energy, and once it's built, it only needs seawater for replenishment."

"Although the energy of a Solar Furnace doesn't have the life-giving properties of Natural Energy that stimulate growth, it would be enough to restore the climate of the entire Land of Snow to a normal one."

Vegapunk sighed. Biotechnology in the Naruto World was quite advanced, but in terms of energy, because of the existence of Chakra as a versatile human energy source, development had been very slow. No one had even discovered radioactive substances.

Perhaps it wasn't that no one had discovered them, but that no one bothered to study them. After all, high-purity radioactive substances were extremely dangerous. Instead of studying such things, one might as well study Chakra.

In the Naruto World, first-rate scientists basically all end up becoming Ninjas. Or rather, without the assistance of Chakra, you couldn't even become a top-tier researcher!

And naturally, those scientists studied their own Chakra the most, rather than any external energy source.

"Radioactive substances?" Hearing Vegapunk's words, Fukaboshi Koyuki's eyes lit up, and she said energetically, "Doctor, you can tell me the characteristics of this substance, and I'll help you buy it!"

"Although the Land of Snow is remote, it's actually quite developed in international trade. As long as there's news of radioactive substances, our Land of Snow will definitely be able to buy them!"

Vegapunk slowly shook his head. "Radioactive substances aren't something you can just buy. I believe no one is currently studying such minerals. After all, humans haven't discovered their true purpose yet, so no matter how you inquire, you probably won't find anything."

"I see..." Fukaboshi Koyuki bit her nails and fell into thought. However, she was still just a little girl under ten years old, so she naturally couldn't come up with any solutions.

Actually, it wasn't that Vegapunk couldn't solve the Land of Snow's environmental problems, but he felt that the current situation was best for them.

The population of the Land of Snow did not exceed one million. A piece of land equivalent to a medium-sized country was already more than enough for them. Even if the area were expanded further, the Land of Snow wouldn't be able to truly control those lands due to its population.

Conversely, if the entire Land of Snow underwent such a change, not to mention the negative consequences like rising sea levels from melting ice and snow, other countries would likely start having ill intentions toward the Land of Snow.

Rich in minerals, fertile in land, yet sparsely populated—the Snow Ninja, who were originally quite troublesome, would see their strength drop to a mediocre level once they lost the advantage of the snowy climate. It would be a prime piece of meat; it would be strange if it didn't attract the prying eyes of ambitious people.
