Chapter 36 - 36 Cracks in Reality

The world that seemed peaceful began to show cracks.

Early in the morning, I walked through the city, observing the people. Everything looked normal, yet something was off. Streetlights flickered strangely, people's shadows stretched unnaturally, and faint noises emerged—whispers that seemed to come from the very air.

The chain of the contract on my wrist vibrated softly. Its heat felt like a more serious warning this time. I looked down at my hand, and a long-lost whisper returned.

"The remainder… is still there. You are not done."

I knew it was no idle warning. This world, though appearing perfect, was feeling the effects of the leftover contract. Everything I had saved still demanded a price. And that price… was myself.

In a park, children played, laughing. But the laughter sounded distant, as if coming from another reality. I watched them, feeling alien—without emotion, only as an observer.

Suddenly, a crack appeared in the air. Like shattered glass, but without sound. The crack widened, signaling instability. I tried to step toward it, but my body felt heavy, as if the world itself was pushing me back.

The entity appeared beside me, a faint shadow not fully real. "This is the consequence of unfinished sacrifice. The world may survive, but the remainder of the contract will follow you," it said calmly.

I exhaled. No fear, no anger—only awareness. I realized that I was no longer part of this world, yet the world still needed my sacrifice.

The crack expanded. I looked into it, seeing shadowed versions of the city—realities that might collapse if the remainder of the contract was not settled. I knew my next step was not for ordinary humans—but to save reality itself.

If I fail, everything I fought for will vanish.

If I succeed, I remain a shadow.

I stepped into the crack, without fear, without hope, only with one purpose: complete the remainder of the contract, save the world once again.

And as I stepped, the white light from the chain illuminated an unseen path, granting direction, power, and reminding me of the true price of sacrifice.

The world was cracking… and I was the only one who could mend it.
