Lucian did not take Julian home.
That was the first thing Julian noticed when the car finally stopped.
The second was the building itself. It sat half-hidden between two older structures, easy to miss unless someone already knew where to look.
Selene killed the engine.
Lucian opened his door and stepped out without explanation.
Julian followed.
Selene stayed behind the wheel.
"You're not coming?" Julian asked.
She glanced at him once, then back at Lucian.
"No."
That was all she gave him.
Lucian was already at the door.
Julian exhaled quietly and went after him.
The lock clicked open under Lucian's hand. Inside was a short hallway, bare walls, one light overhead, and a stairwell at the end. No sign that ordinary people passed through here.
Julian looked around once.
"This is either very secure," he said, "or a perfect place to dispose of bodies."
Lucian started up the stairs.
"It serves its purpose."
Julian followed him.
