Chapter 67 - The black diamond

Taga and Zain were walking in front of everyone, leading the group, when they started having a conversation.

Taga said, "So, Zain, how are you handling being back here and all?"

Zain replied, "It wasn't your or your people's fault for what happened. It just so happened that they died here," while looking at the two swords on his back.

Taga looked at the swords and said, "You were originally six back then, but you were cut down to three because of the events that took place. One was your captain, and the other two were your brothers."

"I was born a day later than those two, so they always had the need to be my protectors."

Taga said, "Oh, come on. That's what big brothers are for. I can tell you miss them, or you wouldn't have kept their swords."

Zain looked away. "Can we save this for later? It still hurts, you know."

Taga nodded. "Sorry."

He stopped walking and looked ahead.

"We're here!"

Everyone reached the center and saw dwarfs left and right. Some were working, some were practicing their fighting skills, and others were spending quality time with their families.

In the center of it all, they saw a huge black diamond.

Ryo, Benjamin, Abraham, and Rimazu all said simultaneously, "THAT'S NOT A HEART! THAT'S A DIAMOND!"

Zain looked at them and said to himself, Idiots.

Scarlet said, "He meant it metaphorically."

Sulaiman looked at the diamond and asked, "Why are there slashes on the diamond?"

Taga replied, "Ah, those are used to determine the strongest among us dwarfs. You see, this diamond is made up of the hardest material in the world. It's called Kashi. It can be found anywhere, but it's usually found in the next region."

Ali grinned. "Hardest, huh? Well, let's see about that."

He drew his katana and struck the diamond.

No scratch appeared on the diamond.

Taga laughed. "In case you can't tell, the slashes are made by axes. The one right on top was made by me."

"You mean the horizontal line on top?" Rimazu asked.

Taga nodded. "Yes."

Aisha said, "Whoa, impressive!"

Leona added, "For an old man, that's impressive."

Ruqayya looked at Ryo and asked, "Hey, wanna try?"

Ryo smiled. "No."

He then looked at Rimazu and Benjamin.

"But I know who wants to."

Rimazu looked at Taga. "Old man, can you please teach us the way of the axe?"

Benjamin added, "Yes, we would be honored."

Leona and Aisha both looked at them.

"Who's 'we'?"

Taga asked, "Are you sure?"

They both replied, "Yes."

Benjamin said, "We admire the way the dwarfs fight."

Rimazu added, "I know it sounds ironic, but I really look up to the bravery that the dwarfs display."

Taga thought for a moment.

"Well, okay then."

Abraham suddenly asked, "Wait, it looks like there are no spear marks on the diamond."

Taga replied, "Yes. We found out that spears are ineffective."

Abraham chuckled. "We'll see about that. Do you mind training me how to use a spear?"

Taga smiled. "Okay, then."

"Is there more?" Taga asked.

No one responded.

Taga nodded. "Okay. My palace is right up north. We'll start training once we get there."

Taga looked at Zain.

"You have an interesting bunch."

Zain chuckled. "Huh... interesting is an understatement."
