Chapter 25 - Chapter 25: Heading to the Guard Department!

A low voice sounded from behind Kal'tsit. She turned her head to look at the tall figure approaching from behind.

"Lord Patriot, I came to discuss some matters regarding the Infected with Ms. Talulah, but I heard talking inside and felt it wasn't quite appropriate to enter just now," Kal'tsit replied without changing her expression or missing a beat.

Buldrokkas'tee nodded, and at that moment, Frostnova, hearing the voices outside, opened the door and saw the two standing there.

"Dr. Kal'tsit, and Ol... Father. Is there something the matter?" Frostnova paused, having almost subconsciously blurted out "Old Stubborn One" before catching herself.

"I came to discuss some Infected-related matters with Leader Talulah, but seeing as the conversation inside sounded quite pleasant, I refrained from knocking. It just so happened that Lord Buldrokkas'tee was passing by, so we chatted for a bit."

Kal'tsit caught a glimpse of Frostnova carrying out a withered branch and tossing it onto the firewood pile by the door, and she couldn't help but feel a bit surprised. Didn't that person just say they brought back fresh sprigs? But looking into the room, there was still a branch inside that appeared to have been dried out for a long time.

So... Kal'tsit thought thoughtfully. Considering there was a Blood Demon on her own ship who could survive on nothing but engine oil, she wouldn't be too surprised by any strange things she saw.

"Dr. Kal'tsit? I'll be out in a moment."

Talulah had also heard Kal'tsit's voice; after handing the pen and paper back to Alina, she walked out. Although Kal'tsit still wanted to probe the situation inside, Talulah had already closed the door.

"It's cold outside, Dr. Kal'tsit, let's go to my quarters!" Talulah invited, pointing toward her room in the distance.

"Of course!" Although Kal'tsit still wanted to investigate the secrets inside Alina's room, it was clearly not the time. She nodded expressionlessly and followed Talulah to her quarters.

"What were you doing in there?" Buldrokkas'tee asked only after Talulah had led Kal'tsit away.

Frostnova explained how Alina and Flandre Scarlet were in remote contact—how the other party had found relevant books in Yan and was reading them to Alina, while Alina wrote them down.

"Is the connection between Blood Demons really that convenient?" Frostnova looked at Buldrokkas'tee curiously. As the last Wendigo, he certainly knew a bit more than she did.

Buldrokkas'tee was also bewildered. Could the connection between Blood Demons be this convenient? If it were true, the Military Committee would have raised the priority of developing Blood Demons by several levels long ago. After all, just a few Blood Demons could ensure that communication between several legions and Kazdel would face no obstacles. The improvement this would bring to military operations would be immense.

So why hadn't the Sarkaz done this? Naturally, it was because no one had ever heard of Blood Demons being able to do such a thing before. The Reunion Movement was at least four or five hundred kilometers away from Lungmen. To be able to maintain continuous communication over such a distance—to his knowledge, none of the existing Sarkaz witchcraft could achieve this.

Thus, he shook his head, indicating he didn't know.

"Old Stubborn One, didn't you say you knew a lot about the Sarkaz?" Frostnova teased.

Buldrokkas'tee also felt a bit disoriented in the wind. He came from Kazdel and possessed various knowledge inherited through his bloodline. While he might not compare to scholars specializing in Sarkaz research, his understanding of the Sarkaz was far greater than that of ordinary people. But regarding what Frostnova described, he had to admit it was the first time he had heard of it.

Inside the room, Alina began to continue her recording after Talulah and the others left.

[Sister Alina, did some trouble happen on your end?]

Flandre Scarlet had noticed the sudden silence on the other side, so she paused her reading and asked out of concern.

[It's nothing, Ms. Kal'tsit came to discuss things with Talulah. They've already left, let's continue!]

[Okay!] Flandre nodded and continued reading the book in her hand.

It wasn't until the moon was high in the sky that she looked at the remaining half of the book and said, [Continue the rest tomorrow?]

[No problem, I'll contact you at the same time tomorrow night.] Alina also felt a bit tired. Even without having to use her brain much, the word count for five chapters of this reference book was not small at all.

Moreover, many things were technical terms, and quite a few were directly in Victoria or Sarkaz language. Flandre didn't know how to translate them for her, so she could only "copy and paste" them through the bloodline "telephone." She forcibly sent those segments of text over. Alina didn't recognize them either and could only copy the characters as best she could.

At worst, she could ask the people from Rhodes Island to help translate them after she finished writing. After all, among the people who came this time, there were Operators who understood the Ursus language.

Tucking the bookmark into the book, Flandre flew back to her bed.

"It seems I'm missing a few dolls, hmm... but I can't buy them without money!" Looking at her empty bed, Flandre lay down and quickly fell asleep.

After waking up the next day, she walked out of the house and strolled around as usual. Before long, she saw a familiar figure running over. Upon seeing Flandre, the person waved happily.

"Good morning, Flandre!"

"Good morning, Beatrice. You look especially happy today!" Seeing the other's tail wagging so fast it was like an electric fan, Flandre asked curiously.

"Hehehe, you caught me! My application to join the Guard Department was approved! I'm heading over to report for duty in a bit!"

Beatrice's eyes sparkled as she described to Flandre her goal of becoming a Senior Superintendent within six months, a high-ranking official within a year, and successfully becoming the Director of the Guard Department within three years.

To this, Flandre only wanted to say that she did indeed achieve her final goal, but according to the plot, it took her five to six years to reach that ultimate position. Still, it was actually quite terrifying. At that time, Swire should have been around thirty years old at most.

A top leader around thirty... only with Governor Wei Yanwu's favor and the support of the Swire Family could she have done it; otherwise, an ordinary person would have to double that age and still might not reach that position even if they worked until they were old.

But then again, Nine was about the same age as Ch'en or slightly older back then, so Wei Yanwu was indeed very bold in his appointments and liked to promote young people. However, this made Flandre think of something else.

"Sister Beatrice, can you take me with you to the Guard Department?" Flandre asked with a look of anticipation.

"Flandre, what are you going to the Guard Department for? Did your house get robbed? Do you need to report a crime?" Beatrice looked around nervously.

Flandre shook her head. "No, Lady Fumizuki visited last night and gave me a certificate. Sister, wait for me, I'll go get it for you to see."

Flandre spoke as she ran back to her nearby house. Soon, she ran back with the certificate.

"Look, Sister. The Lady said she was worried I'd be too bored here alone, so she helped find something for me to do. By the way, Flandre isn't an adult yet. Will there be trouble with working?"

Picking up the certificate Flandre handed over, our Little Tiger immediately felt that today's weather wasn't so beautiful anymore. What was written on this thing?

Special Invited Expert of the Major Crimes Unit?

Does the Guard Department even have such a position? Oh, personally appointed by Governor Wei. Then there's no problem. Fine, although the girl in front of her was external personnel, her status was not low at all.

After all, the status of the Major Crimes Unit was of the highest tier within the L.G.D. (Lungmen Guard Department). Although the dangers they faced were also the greatest, it had to be admitted that all Guard Department Operators took pride in being able to enter the Major Crimes Unit. And the certificate in Flandre's hand showed that she could freely choose whether to participate in the Guard Department's mission assignments and had the authority to access case information and files.

In other words, although she wasn't officially part of the Guard Department, her authority was much higher than that of most Guard Department Operators. Seeing this, Beatrice admitted she was a bit envious.

"Alright, meet me at the gate in a bit. I'll drive you there," Swire finally agreed to Flandre's request.

"So you're going to the Guard Department to report in as well?" Swire asked after handing the certificate back to Flandre.

Flandre shook her head. "No, I want to decorate the house with some dolls, but I don't have any money. In the city, I only know Ch'en Huijie from the Guard Department and Governor Wei Yanwu. Governor Wei is not easy to meet, so I can only go find Sister Ch'en to ask for some pocket money."

Flandre's words left Swire greatly shocked. Governor Wei arranged for someone to live here but didn't give her any pocket money?

"Then what do you usually eat?" Swire asked in surprise.

"Governor Wei has food delivered to me." Flandre's words made Swire breathe a sigh of relief again; it seemed that Governor-sama wasn't completely out of touch with worldly matters.

"No need to go find your Sister Ch'en. Once I'm done reporting in, I'll take you to the mall to buy whatever you want." The Little Tiger waved her hand grandly, speaking with great generosity.

Flandre inwardly marveled that she was indeed the little rich girl from her other memories; this one had simply never experienced what it meant to struggle when it came to money.

After the two chatted for a few more words, the Little Tiger continued her morning run, while Flandre held her certificate and unhurriedly continued her stroll. But this time she didn't head back, instead arriving at the entrance of the residential area.

Many passersby instinctively wanted to approach this cute little girl, but upon seeing the bat wings behind her, they were frightened and retreated. Flandre didn't feel any sadness about this. In her eyes, these were all insignificant people. Since they were insignificant, she didn't care about their feelings. As long as it didn't affect her life, these people were no different from ants on the roadside in her eyes.

"Sorry to keep you waiting, get in!" Not long after, Beatrice drove up to the main gate and called out to Flandre, who was standing on the sidewalk, through the car window.
