Chapter 23 - New Rules

Three weeks.

Twenty-one days.

Five hundred and four hours since Daniel had driven out of that hospital parking lot, with my heart in his pocket.

Not that I was counting.

"I was absolutely counting."

"You look like hell," Ella said, appraising me with a critical eye as we trudged across campus on our way to Morrison Hall. "It's like you haven't slept in ages." 

"I've slept," I lied.

"Liar. You have dark circles under your dark circles." She repositioned my backpack strap, which had gotten twisted the wrong way around me. "Are you sure you're really ready for this? Because you can still drop the class. Take it next semester when he's not —"

"There is no other section. I need Psychology 302 for my major and Professor Anderson is the only person teaching it." I took a deep sigh. " I'd checked. Thoroughly. Desperately. Believe me, if there was another way I could do this, I would."

"You could switch majors."

I stopped for a second and stared at her.
