Chapter 25 - Chapter 25 Does God Exist?

For the rest of the afternoon, Mike found a shady spot in the yard and went through several rounds of high-intensity physical training.

Because of the Demon Body, Mike didn't have to worry about his body getting tired and leaving hidden injuries.

Continuous exercise allowed his physique to grow little by little.

And the positive feedback from the system also kept Mike enthusiastic.

After a few rounds of training, it was almost evening.

Mike wiped his sweat, rested for a bit, and returned to the room, finding Connie still drinking in the living room.

"Drink less, it's not good for your health~" Looking at the empty wine bottles in front of her, Mike couldn't help but advise.

"It's fine, Connie knows what she's doing." Connie was already a bit tipsy, but her mind was still clear.

It was strange; Connie was over seventy, smoked and drank daily, yet her body remained very robust.

Seeing that she was indeed fine, Mike didn't say much. After a quick wash in the bathroom, he was about to go to the kitchen to prepare dinner.

"There's pork loin in the fridge, Connie wants to eat shredded pork Remember to add more sugar..." Connie saw Mike going to cook and reminded him with a smile.

"Okay~" Mike responded and walked into the kitchen.

But before he could even start cooking, Connie in the living room received a distress call from Mary.

George had to go to the hospital because he wasn't feeling well, and Mary was worried that no one would look after the three children at home, so she asked Connie to come and help.

Knowing that she wasn't good at taking care of people, Connie called Mike to go to Sheldon's house with her.

As soon as they entered, they saw the three children, Sheldon, George, and Missy, all sitting on the sofa with anxious expressions.

They had all seen George clutching his heart, his face pale, earlier.

As the pillar of the family, George's sudden collapse made all three children very worried.

"Meemaw, will dad be okay?" Sheldon saw Connie arrive and quickly sought comfort from her.

Georgie and Missy also looked expectantly at Connie, as if she held George's life and death in her hands.

"Don't worry, George is strong, he'll be fine." Connie composed herself and comforted the three children.

Actually, she was also a bit uncertain. Remembering Mary's urgent tone earlier, it was clear that George's condition was not optimistic this time.

Seeing that the family was a bit flustered, Mike also spoke a few words to comfort them. Then, seeing that no one had eaten dinner yet, he took on the task of making dinner.

Connie also calmed down after Mike's reminder. Leaving Georgie to watch TV with his younger siblings, she followed Mike to the kitchen.

Although she wanted to help, Connie's tipsy state made her unable to assist effectively.

Moreover, she still had worries on her mind.

"Connie, you go out and stay with Sheldon and the others, I can handle it here." Mike saw that she was only getting in the way and suggested.

Seeing Mike take charge at a crucial moment, Connie was a bit moved.

If Mike hadn't been there, she probably wouldn't have known how to take care of the three anxious little ones.

"Thank you~" Connie hugged Mike, expressing her gratitude.

After sending Connie away, Mike quickly prepared several of his signature dishes. To cater to everyone's taste, he even made the shredded pork a bit sweeter.

Even at dinner, the three Cooper children had not yet escaped their negative emotions.

Connie's mood was also heavy, thinking about George. She realized that over the years, due to prejudice, she had rarely shown concern for George, her son-in-law.

The atmosphere at the dinner table was somber, and Mike didn't have a good solution for it.

"Mike, do you think God really exists?" Sheldon thought of what happened in the church that morning.

He believed that his questioning of God was what caused his family to suffer misfortune. George's illness was the best explanation.

All these thoughts made Sheldon, a believer in science, begin to doubt himself.

Mike didn't understand Sheldon's train of thought. He thought carefully for a moment and replied, "God? Maybe he does!"

Jennifer's existence proved that there were demons in this world. Since there were demons, it seemed reasonable for God to exist.

Although Sheldon was dissatisfied with some of Mike's actions, he was certain that Mike was one of the only two smart people in the Cooper family.

Hearing Mike's answer, Sheldon fell silent.

A moment later, his troubled little face relaxed: "If God really exists, that's a good thing. I'll go ask him for forgiveness right now..."

With that, Sheldon dropped his knife and fork and walked to the side to pray earnestly.

Everyone else seemed used to his strange behavior.

Perhaps Sheldon's prayer worked, because a moment later, the phone rang.

Everyone looked at Connie and saw several empty wine bottles in front of her. She had completely collapsed onto the table.

Perhaps due to her guilt, she had actually gotten drunk.

While the three children didn't know how to handle the situation, Mike walked over and picked up the phone.

It was indeed Mary's call. She said that George was still in a coma and his condition was very bad.

And finally, she worriedly asked about the situation of the three children at home.

Mike told her that everything was fine at home and not to worry, then ended the call.

Facing the expectant gazes of the three children, Mike told them about George's condition.

"How could this happen~" Georgie and Missy's moods became even heavier.

Sheldon, hearing the news, once again doubted the existence of God. If God truly existed, he should have heard his prayer.

"This won't do." Georgie said with worry, "I want to go to the hospital to see him."

As soon as he spoke, he immediately received approval from Sheldon and Missy.

To go to the hospital to see Georgie, they needed a car.

Their gazes shifted to the dining table, where Connie was sleeping soundly.

"I know where the keys are." Missy said, going to Connie's side and quickly pulling a set of keys from her pocket.

"Great, let's go now~" Georgie snatched the car keys and was about to leave.

"Wait," Sheldon wasn't an ordinary child: "If Meemaw wakes up and finds us gone, she'll definitely worry and might even call the police. We should leave her a note."

Saying that, Sheldon was about to run back to his room to find paper and a pen.

"Wait a moment~" Mike called out to Sheldon and explained to the three children: "If Connie knew we were going to the hospital to see George, she definitely wouldn't stop us. It's better if we wake her up and ask for her opinion."

Although Sheldon was thoughtful, he was still a child after all, and his thinking had limitations.

Before the three children could think further, Mike woke up Connie.

"What's wrong? What happened?" Connie asked, squinting her eyes, clearly not fully awake yet.

Mike told her about their plan.

"Hmm, we should go to the hospital to see George." Connie struggled to get up: "I'll drive you guys..."

Seeing that she was still drunk, Mike said he would drive. Then he took the keys from Georgie.

Connie knew she wasn't in good shape and didn't insist. She chose to sit in the passenger seat, giving Mike directions.

The group arrived at the hospital smoothly. Mary, who was waiting outside the intensive care unit, looked a bit relieved when she saw her family arrive.

And after learning about George's condition, Sheldon happened to find a small chapel in the hallway, and he decided to believe in God one more time.
