Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: Training

"Damn it~ Is he ignoring me…? How dare he…?" Regina's smile froze as Mike calmly walked past her, a look of gnashing teeth replacing it.

In the Queen Bee's eyes, she would not tolerate anyone ignoring her; it would be a blasphemy against her charm.

Karen, seeing the situation was not right, knew how dangerous it was to be hated by Regina.

So, she quickly helped Mike explain, "Calm down, Regina, no one would ignore your beauty. Mike might have done that because he's nervous; he just joined the team…"

Regina looked at Karen with a questioning gaze; she had also noticed the small interaction between Mike and Karen earlier.

However, between admitting her charm was insufficient and concluding that Mike was "blind," she preferred to believe the latter.

Glancing at Mike's back, Regina magnanimously said, "Forget it, considering he just joined the team. I'll forgive him this once…"

After speaking, Regina ran her fingers through her golden hair and haughtily returned to the cheerleading squad.

Sam, who was warming up on the field, saw Regina and the other two actively approaching Mike, and his eyes turned red with jealousy.

He had originally had some conflicts with Georgie because he couldn't stand the genius Sheldon's performance at school.

Because of this, the two had once had a fight on the field.

And Mike was brought to the team by Georgie, so the straightforward Sam naturally hated Mike as well.

Now, seeing Mike talking to the goddess in his heart, the flames of jealousy burned fiercely within Sam.

The big guy's eyes darted around, and he approached the captain, who was doing warm-up exercises alone, and whispered provocatively, "Aaron, that new kid actually dares to covet Regina's beauty. Do you want me to teach him a lesson for you?"

As the football captain, Aaron, in the eyes of others, was definitely a match made in heaven with the cheerleading captain Regina.

Moreover, there had indeed been some rumors about the two before, but they had never been confirmed by the parties involved.

Don't let Sam's foolish appearance deceive you; his approach to Aaron was very clever.

If he was lucky, he might be able to get Aaron to join him in dealing with Mike.

Once Aaron, the football captain and quarterback, wanted to deal with Mike, Mike and Georgie's lives on the team would not be easy.

Of course, for Sam's plans to succeed, the prerequisite was that Aaron had indeed had something going on with Regina.

However, after listening to Sam, Aaron frowned and said, "Regina and I are not in the kind of relationship you think. Also, Mike is someone the coach values, and I hope you don't provoke him."

Aaron, who understood Sam's personality, naturally did not want the other party to affect the team's training due to some off-field matters.

It could be said that Aaron was someone who truly loved football, and he highly valued a talented newcomer like Mike.

Sam, who had found himself a dead end, secretly despised Aaron in his heart, but on his face, he obsequiously promised that he would never trouble Mike.

Watching Sam's retreating back, Aaron shook his head, his expression somewhat helpless.

Football is not an individual sport; for a team to achieve good results, the team's atmosphere and cohesion are very important.

A troublemaker like Sam, if it weren't for the team being short on players, there would be no need to keep him.

On the other side, as Mike and Georgie were stretching, Coach George, wearing his new whistle around his neck, came over to them.

That golden whistle, glinting in the sun, was the small gift Mike had given George yesterday.

After motioning for Georgie to continue warming up, Coach George looked at Mike and asked, "Mike, how much do you know about football?"

"I've pretty much learned all the rules on the field from Georgie," Mike replied.

"Very good." George was satisfied with Mike's preparedness. Then, he asked in more detail, "What do you know about 'Running Back'?"

Running Back: In offense, the running back is usually lined up in the backfield and generally receives the ball handed off by the quarterback, gaining yards by running.

Running backs are usually divided into two types: power running backs and agile running backs.

Power Running Back: Strong physically and can gain short yards by brute force, often used as a battering ram for short-yardage situations.

Agile Running Back: Usually has no excessive demands on physique but requires better speed and agility, good at finding larger yardage runs on the outside.

In the current team, big Sam was a power running back. And Mike, on the other hand, leaned more towards an agile running back.

Mike recalled Georgie's explanation during self-study class and gave the correct answer.

"Good~" Coach George smiled and continued to ask, "Then what do you know about 'Safety'?"

Safety: In defense, the safety generally positions himself in the deep backfield as the team's last line of defense.

Mike again gave the correct answer.

"Very good, put on this uniform during training later." George unfolded a large blue T-shirt with the number 20 marked in yellow letters.

On the football field, each player's uniform has strict requirements.

The numbers 20-49 are exactly the numbers that offensive running backs (running backs, halfbacks) and defensive backs (cornerbacks, safeties) should wear.

It seemed that Coach George had already considered Mike's position on the field.

As Mike put on his uniform, Coach George in the middle of the field blew his whistle for assembly.

After the players gathered, Mike took a quick look and estimated that the school football team had over a hundred people.

However, a large portion of this team wore uniforms without numbers.

Clearly, these were all students who intended to earn credits; they would not be sent onto the field during actual games:

—commonly known as the atmosphere group.

Over there, Sam also saw Mike in the number 20 jersey among the crowd. Seeing that the other party had his own exclusive jersey on only his second day, the big guy's expression turned even uglier.

Next, the team underwent an hour of physical training.

During this period, players with numbers on their jerseys had stricter demands on themselves during training. Those students earning credits, however, could rest aside if they were tired.

Mike's stamina exceeded one hundred, which was considered top-tier among these sixteen and seventeen-year-olds.

An hour of high-intensity training left him breathless, but also gave him a feeling of exhilaration.

As Mike wiped his sweat and rested, a figure suddenly bumped into him.

Unprepared, Mike stumbled. After steadying himself, he looked back to see a burly player looking at him with a triumphant expression.

That person was wearing a number 21 uniform.

Seeing that he hadn't knocked Mike down, the person was a bit surprised, but still provoked, "Kid, don't think you can be arrogant just because Coach favors you. Be careful in the future~"

After saying that, the person didn't wait for Mike's reaction. Taking advantage of no one noticing them, he quickly blended back into the crowd.
