Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Visitors from the Town

Because of the hot weather, Dennis had little appetite, and almost all the food he brought out ended up in Mike's stomach.

"Dennis, we don't really need to be in such a hurry, do we? If I remember correctly, the unit should have approved more than a week of leave for you for this official business trip, right?" Mike asked casually after finishing the large hamburger in his hand.

"The sooner I get you settled, the sooner I can go back and spend a couple more days with your Aunt Kelly," Dennis replied while collecting the trash.

"Oh, your words are so sappy..." Mike pretended to shiver, then chugged the beer beside him and forcefully threw the empty bottle into the distance.

In Dennis's "complaining" voice, Mike picked up his travel bag and happily ran towards the RV.

"You stinky kid, your personality is getting more and more cheerful!" Dennis looked at Mike's back, and a smile appeared on his usually stern face.

Four years ago, after Mike's parents passed away unexpectedly, Dennis became Mike's legal guardian.

Due to family reasons, Mike's personality had always been somewhat "introverted."

Dennis had been worried that Mike's personality would become even more withdrawn after the "Jennifer" incident.

However, judging from Mike's current performance, he seemed to have emerged from Jennifer's shadow.

This situation gave Dennis a sense of relief, like "my child has finally grown up."

After a period of "fatherly" lament, Dennis also picked up the trash bag and walked towards the RV.

Before long, the old car once again embarked on its journey with a creaking sound.

Mike lay back on the rear seat, covering his face with a cowboy hat, appearing to be asleep, but in reality, his consciousness had entered the system.

Yes, as a transmigrator, how could Mike not have a system by his side?

[Pickup System]

[Host: Mike Quinn]

Intelligence: 128+ (Normal 90-110, Excellent 110-120, Very Excellent 120-140, Genius 140+)]

[Physique: 107+ (Normal adult male is 100)]

[Skills: Driving Lv3 (67/10000), Shooting Lv2 (233/1000), Cooking Lv2 (191/1000)...]

(Skills are divided into five levels / more skills can be expanded to view.)

[Trait: Demon Body (1. Immortality. 2. Eternal Youth. 3. Rapid Healing.)]

(Note: "Immortality" here does not mean invincibility. Severe damage to the brain or heart will still result in death.)

(Similar traits can be stacked and fused.)

After about a month of exploration, Mike had pretty much figured out his system.

That is, by changing other people's emotions, attribute points, skill proficiency, and various traits would randomly drop.

Simple and direct.

Moreover, according to Mike's initial guess, the "protagonists" of this world seemed more likely to drop good things.

Just like the Demon Body, which Mike accidentally picked up when Jennifer died.

After system optimization, Mike's Demon Body only required normal food intake to function, unlike Jennifer, who needed to eat people.

Just as Mike was observing the system, the sound of the RV scraping against something "woke" him up.

Fortunately, the slight collision did not affect the use of the RV. The scraping sound just now must have been the car hitting the curb.

Mike looked up and, sure enough, saw Dennis's sleepy eyes in the rearview mirror.

"Hey, Dennis! Why don't you rest for a while and let me drive?" Mike said seriously.

Dennis was called back to his senses by Mike, and his mind started working again. He immediately refused, "No, you're not old enough to have a driver's license. It's against the rules to let you drive."

"Dennis, think again. You drank alcohol earlier, which is drunk driving. Driving through the night until you're disoriented is fatigued driving... Do you need me to call the police for you?" Mike countered for their safety.

Their eyes met in the rearview mirror, and finally, Dennis gave in, stopped the car, and said, "Alright, you're right... You drive, and I'll watch you from the passenger seat."

Mike got to drive the RV as he wished. With his Level 3 driving skill, he naturally drove the car fast and steadily.

Dennis leaned back in the passenger seat, originally intending to give Mike some pointers. However, seeing Mike drive steadily, he soon snored in his seat.

There were not many interstates, and after more than three hours, Mike arrived at Deford Town by following the road signs.

The town looked small in scale, and under the sunset, it exuded a simple, rustic charm everywhere.

Mike asked for directions a few times along the way and then drove the RV to the front of house number 5502.

At this time, the door of this detached apartment was tightly shut.

However, the apartment across the street, numbered 5501, was very lively.

"Missy, go see if our 'guest' has arrived," Old Man George, who was lying on the sofa watching sports, said to his youngest daughter when he heard the commotion outside the door.

A little girl holding a doll ran to the window with a patter of footsteps, looked out, and exclaimed, "Cool! There's an RV parked in front of our house!"

"Has our Mike arrived?" A fashionably dressed old woman poked her head out of the kitchen, her face showing anticipation.

She was the person Mike was going to stay with: Connie.

Connie: "Mary, don't be busy yet, our little guest is already waiting outside the door."

George: "Missy, go to the room and call Georgie out~"

George: "Sheldon, when you see the guest later, don't say anything strange!"

Sheldon: "Got it, isn't it just someone coming to stay at Meemaw's? Why are you all so excited?"

After a moment of chaos, George's family and Connie appeared neatly at the door.

Mike had just finished tidying his clothes and stepped out of the RV.

"Oh~" Connie came forward. She was first surprised by Mike's height, then looked at Mike's face again and again, as if trying to identify something.

Finally, she smiled and said warmly, "You must be Mike. Your eyes are so much like Elizabeth's, equally charming."

The Elizabeth she mentioned was Mike's deceased grandmother.

Mike had already guessed, and seeing that it was indeed Little Sheldon's family and Connie, he was not too surprised. He politely said, "I am Mike, Mike Quinn. Are you Miss Connie Tucker?"

"It's me, you can call me Connie..." Connie said, remembering that Mike no longer had family. She was moved and stepped forward to hug him, saying, "What a poor child~"

Well, the tall and strong Mike was actually almost a head taller than Connie, who was just over five feet tall.

Moreover, Mike also had a farm to inherit. In every way, he couldn't be considered poor.

Behind them, Missy was already captivated by Mike's handsome face and happily asked Mary, "Mom, can I marry Mike?"

Mary, who was in the middle of being moved, widened her eyes when she heard her little daughter's question and explained, "Of course not, you're still in elementary school."

Missy: "Then after I go to middle school, can I marry him?"

Mary sternly: "Not in middle school either!"

Missy: "Then..."

Mary: "Not in high school either!"

Her mother had anticipated what she wanted to say, so Missy huffed unhappily.

Then, she hugged her doll and quietly moved two steps towards her father, George, to show her protest against her mother, Mary.
