And I definitely didn't expect him. He was standing near the central pole, watching everything like he already belonged there. The moment I saw him, I knew we wouldn't get along.

That was the moment I made my first enemy.

When I stepped out of my carriage and entered Evercrest Academy, the instructor was already calling out the names of the first years.

I hurried toward the main hall where all of us were gathering, my heart beating faster with every step. The first years were already seated in their houses, each one marked by its magical specialty—wind, fire, water, earth, and the rarer elements that only a few were born with.

That was when I saw him. Rowan Ashford—leaning casually against the railing like he owned the entire hall. His fire magic shimmered faintly around his hands, subtle but impossible to ignore.

I couldn't help the tight twist in my stomach. Not fear—annoyance.

Of course he had to be in my house. "Great," I muttered under my breath. "Just what I needed… a perfect, smirking rival." He caught my glare and tilted his head, a faint smirk tugging at his lips. Perfect. My enemy already knew me. The instructor called out the houses one by one. When mine was announced—Wind—I felt a small rush of pride. It was rare, fast, and unpredictable, just like me. A few names later, his came up. Fire. I didn't even need to look at him to know Rowan Ashford had smirked. Of course he did. Fire was bold, disciplined… exactly the opposite of me. After a few more names, came my friend's name whom I just met- Lyra Blackthorn- she was sorted to earth. And then, another boy's name who I think is Rowan' s friend- Orion Blue who was sorted into water. Then, after all the first years were sorted, we were taken to our dormitories. I thought i wouldn't fit in but a girl named Ashley Void and a boy named Erix Blackfire introduced themselves. I was finally able to make new friends. Then I hear out my name- Aira Blaze. My heart was pounding. I was so new here and people already knew my name? That was wierd. When the other people heard my name, they all stared at me with pride, shock and excitement. I asked Ashley why everyone were staring at me. Her reply revealed the most worst truth of my entire life.
