Chapter 45 - Chapter 45 The Hidden Strike

The arena's magical hazards intensified to near-impossible levels. Fire surged like living serpents, ice spikes erupted in unpredictable patterns, and lightning arced violently through the simulated sky.

Victor Ravenhart's confident grin faltered slightly as he dodged a massive bolt of lightning. "Damn… this is fast," he muttered, sweat glistening on his brow.

Elena Frostveil's movements were fluid and precise, but even she had to adjust constantly as the terrain shifted beneath her. Her ice lances struck true, yet a rogue fire whip forced her to leap backward to maintain balance.

Saksham, however, remained a calm observer, analyzing each hazard with careful attention. The SYSTEM inside his mind buzzed softly.

He spotted the pattern. The arena's hazards were not random—they followed subtle rhythms, slight delays between each strike. Most candidates were reacting instinctively, but he had the advantage of observation.

"Patience," he murmured, his golden eyes glinting. "Timing is everything."

A massive wave of fire shot toward him, followed by a sudden hail of ice shards. He moved just after the pulse, releasing a concentrated beam of light that vaporized the incoming ice. Another precise strike destabilized the fire wave before it could curl around him.

The crowd of observing instructors murmured. "Remarkable… surgical in execution," one commented.

Victor shook his head, frowning. "He's… thinking two steps ahead. That's dangerous."

Saksham didn't respond. Instead, he shifted his stance subtly, his fusion element beginning to resonate beneath the surface. It remained hidden, imperceptible to anyone else, yet he could feel the surge of energy humming inside him.

Another wave approached, faster this time, combining multiple hazards: fire, ice, and lightning converging toward a single point. The other candidates panicked, scattering in every direction.

Saksham waited. Calculated. Controlled. And then, in a single fluid motion, he channeled his hidden fusion element through his hands. A golden flash surged forward, striking all three hazards simultaneously. The fire dissolved, the ice shattered, and the lightning dispersed harmlessly into the ground.

A stunned silence fell over the arena. Even Victor blinked, surprised. "What… how did he—"

Archmage Valerian's eyes narrowed, his interest piqued more than ever. "So… the boy is not just skilled, he is extraordinary," he murmured under his breath.

Saksham advanced carefully, each step calculated, as the remaining hazards continued to rise and fall in orchestrated chaos. He was no longer reacting—he was controlling the flow, guiding the battlefield subtly with his concealed power.

Victor finally regained his composure and charged toward him. "Alright, time to test you directly!" he shouted, his hands crackling with raw lightning energy.

Saksham's lips curved into a faint smirk. "Finally… a real challenge."

The two clashed mid-arena. Lightning struck against a hidden golden shield, fire and ice swirled around them, and for a moment, the chaos of the arena seemed to freeze. Saksham's movements were effortless, precise, almost inhuman, while Victor's strikes carried raw power but lacked subtlety.

Recommended Tactic: Exploit opponent overcommitment

Saksham saw the opening. Victor, overextending in his aggressive attack, left a small gap in his defense. A single pulse of golden energy slipped through. It was enough to push Victor back without harm, just enough to demonstrate superior skill.

The crowd gasped. Elena's eyes widened slightly, impressed despite herself. Even some instructors whispered in astonishment.

Archmage Valerian leaned forward, his voice low but carrying an edge of curiosity. "So… this is the one I've been waiting for."

Saksham stood tall, golden eyes scanning the arena. The hazards continued to rise, but now, he was no longer just surviving—they were all under his control, whether he fully revealed it or not.

"Let's see the next wave," he said quietly. "I'm ready for anything."

The Combat Trial had reached a new level. And Saksham, hidden fusion element pulsing, was no longer just a candidate—he was a force the academy had never anticipated.
