Chapter 44 - Chapter 44 The Combat Trial

The massive gates groaned as they opened fully, revealing the Combat Arena in all its grandeur.

The arena was circular, surrounded by tiered stone seating for observing instructors. Magical barriers shimmered high above, preventing any attack from leaving the arena. The air was thick with tension.

Archmage Valerian stepped forward, his voice carrying clearly over the silent crowd.

"Welcome to the final trial: the Combat Trial. Only those who can demonstrate skill, strategy, and control will pass. Any reckless action may result in immediate elimination."

Saksham observed calmly. Hundreds of eyes, both candidates and instructors, were on the remaining students.

Victor Ravenhart cracked his knuckles, a confident grin spreading across his face.

"Finally," he muttered. "Time to show what real power looks like."

Elena Frostveil remained serene, her silver hair catching the faint magical glow of the arena. Cold air swirled around her hands, hinting at the precision and control she had displayed in the previous trial.

Valerian raised a hand.

"The arena will now generate your combat scenarios. Each candidate will face a challenge designed to test not just your power, but your ability to adapt under pressure."

Magical sigils on the ground lit up, forming portals that opened to various battle scenarios. Fire erupted in one corner, while simulated lightning storms, ice spires, and shifting terrain emerged elsewhere.

Saksham's turn was called first. He stepped forward, his golden eyes scanning the simulated battlefield.

SYSTEM NOTICE

Trial Detected: Combat Trial

Recommended Strategy: Observe first, strike selectively

Fusion Element: Remain Hidden

He nodded subtly to himself. "Time to play it smart."

From his vantage point, he saw Victor rush into a simulated thunderstorm, lightning crackling across his hands as he aimed for a target. His strikes were powerful, but the storm made his movement slightly erratic.

Elena approached her challenge with calculated steps, her ice lances forming in precise succession, each striking the moving targets exactly as intended.

Saksham waited, studying the scenario. When the moment was right, he released a controlled pulse of golden light, neutralizing a high-speed obstacle with surgical precision.

Instructors murmured among themselves.

"Interesting technique… calculated and efficient."

Victor glanced toward him, raising an eyebrow.

"Hm. Not bad… but let's see how you handle speed and pressure."

Saksham smirked slightly, keeping his fusion element masked.

"This is exactly why I waited."

Across the arena, magical hazards intensified. Fire whips lashed the ground, ice spikes rose unpredictably, and enchanted dummies began attacking candidates from multiple directions.

Saksham adjusted his stance, flowing his mana in controlled bursts. A narrow beam of light deflected an incoming strike, while another pulse dismantled a fire whip before it could reach him.

Current Efficiency: 98%

Mana Consumption: Minimal

Fusion Element Status: Hidden

Archmage Valerian watched intently from his platform.

"That boy… his control is exceptional. Not just precision, but adaptability under extreme conditions."

The other candidates struggled. Some were overwhelmed by the chaotic environment; a few were eliminated as their magic spiraled out of control. Victor's aggressive strikes caused collateral damage, forcing him to step back and rethink his approach.

Saksham moved seamlessly, blending strategy, observation, and controlled force. The obstacles fell away one by one as he advanced, each action deliberate, measured, and efficient.

Valerian's gaze sharpened.

"Perhaps… this is the one to watch closely."

The Combat Trial was far from over. Hazards increased in speed and complexity, and the candidates' limits were being tested to the fullest.

Saksham's calm demeanor contrasted sharply with the chaos around him. The hidden fusion element pulsed faintly in response to his focus, though no one could see it.

"Now…" he whispered under his breath. "Let's see how far this goes."
