Chapter 8 - 8: Is He a Genius?

Kitazawa returned to his office.

Sitting down, he pulled out the class schedule for Class 1-A.

Although as a homeroom teacher he taught fewer subjects than Iruka, every subject he handled was critical.

The three subjects were: The Will of Fire, Konoha History, and Practical Training.

Among them, Practical Training occupied the most slots.

A ninja could lack culture, but they could absolutely not lack power.

Practical Training focused on the Three Basic Jutsu, traditional ninja tool usage, trap detection, and setting.

Time ticked by slowly, and soon it was time for the last period of the day—the practical training session.

Just like students in his previous life, they had eight periods a day—four in the morning, four in the afternoon—each lasting forty-five minutes.

"This is a practical training class."

Kitazawa stood at the classroom door. "Everyone follow me to the training grounds."

"Kitazawa-sensei, are we going to learn ninjutsu now?"

Naruto's eyes lit up, and he asked eagerly.

Although most students didn't ask, their faces were filled with the same expectation.

Only Sasuke Uchiha, Shikamaru Nara, and the other clan heirs remained calm.

This was because they had inherited techniques.

While the civilian students hadn't even mastered the Clone Technique yet, these clan kids had already grasped Fire Release, Gentle Fist, or secret clan arts.

Even if the Academy teachers wanted to teach these advanced techniques, they wouldn't know where to start.

The purpose of clan heirs enrolling was simple: to build connections and learn basic theory.

Naruto was the exception.

Although he was the Nine-Tails Jinchūriki and the son of the Fourth Hokage, Minato Namikaze, no one had taught him anything.

"Since none of you have fully mastered chakra refinement yet, we won't be teaching ninjutsu today. This lesson will cover kunai throwing."

Kitazawa met their gazes firmly.

"Ninja tools are awesome too!"

Naruto was slightly disappointed, but he bounced back quickly.

For a ninja, both jutsu and tools were vital and frequently used.

"Boring."

Sasuke shook his head slightly.

When it came to using ninja tools, almost no one in Konoha could surpass the Uchiha Clan.

This was because of their Kekkei Genkai—the Sharingan.

The Sharingan possessed powerful abilities like insight, hypnosis, and copying.

They had accumulated significant advantages in tool usage, even creating specialized techniques like Shurikenjutsu Manipulation.

Everyone arrived at the training ground.

"Before class starts, I have an announcement."

Kitazawa clapped his hands. "We need to select a Class Monitor."

"I want to be Class Monitor!"

Naruto immediately stood at attention and shouted.

"Me too!"

Many others chimed in.

Even Sasuke moved slightly.

If he were elected Class Monitor, maybe he could get the praise he so desperately craved.

"Do you know what a Class Monitor does?" Kitazawa asked with a smile.

"Manage all the students!"

"I think it's like the Hokage; I want to call it the Class Shadow!"

" The Class Shadow is mine!"

Various chaotic answers flew around instantly.

"The main duty of a Class Monitor is to assist the teacher and help classmates, like conveying the teacher's instructions and collecting homework."

Kitazawa's mouth twitched.

He unconsciously glanced at the boy who said "Class Shadow."

Is he the Chosen One?

"What a waste of time."

Sasuke curled his lip.

If he, a noble Uchiha, went around serving these common students, his father wouldn't praise him; he'd probably whip him.

"What a drag."

Shikamaru muttered.

Instantly, most of the students lost interest.

"Students who still want to be Class Monitor, please raise your hands."

Seeing his goal achieved, Kitazawa smiled.

Naruto was the first to raise his hand. Aside from him, there were three others.

"Very good."

Kitazawa nodded. "From today on, you four will serve as Vice Class Monitors."

"Vice Class Monitor? Then who is the Class Monitor?"

Naruto scratched his head, confused.

"I am the Class Monitor."

Kitazawa kept a straight face. "I will be observing your performance throughout this semester. Next semester, the most outstanding among you will inherit my position as Class Monitor."

[Current Mission: Become the Class Monitor of Class 1-A.]

[Mission Reward: Water Release Affinity.]

[Host has completed the task. Rewards have been distributed.]

Kitazawa looked at the line of text floating before his eyes and couldn't help but feel a surge of joy.

This stupid System was too easy to trick.

Water Affinity successfully acquired!

"Alright, class begins now."

Kitazawa took out a summoning storage scroll, placed it on the ground, and unrolled it.

He formed a hand seal, and with a soft poof, a pile of wooden stakes and kunai appeared from the smoke.

"Vice Monitors."

Kitazawa instructed, "Two of you set up the wooden stakes on the field. The other two, distribute kunai to the classmates."

"Yes!"

Naruto answered with immense enthusiasm.

In his mind, becoming Class Monitor (even Vice) was a huge step toward his dream: getting everyone's acknowledgment.

"Now, let's begin the practical training."

Kitazawa spent fifteen minutes explaining the mechanics of kunai throwing. "Your goal is to hit the fixed wooden stakes."

Thwack.

Sasuke raised his hand and, with a casual flick, demonstrated the legendary Uchiha Shurikenjutsu. The kunai arced through the air and struck the bullseye of a stake perfectly.

"Wow!"

Led by Sakura, many girls gasped in admiration.

You really are a show-off.

Kitazawa sensed the aura of pretension radiating from the boy.

Sasuke's mission was indeed going to be tricky.

"I can do that too!"

Naruto couldn't stand Sasuke's arrogant attitude. He shouted, "Here I come!"

He gripped a kunai and threw it with all his might.

"Ah! I hit it!"

Naruto tilted his head, surprised and excited.

"Naruto, that's my stake."

Shikamaru shook his head helplessly, reminding him.

Naruto froze completely.

"Making mistakes is common. Don't be discouraged, just practice more."

Kitazawa paused, then smiled. "Students who hit the bullseye will receive a snack pack from me."

"Snacks?"

Choji Akimichi's eyes widened to the size of copper bells.

"Yeah!"

The students immediately erupted in cheers.

Although children in the ninja world matured early, they were still kids. The temptation of snacks was powerful.

"Childish."

Sasuke huffed softly.

He wasn't a three-year-old anymore; he was almost six!

The invigorating effect of the snacks livened up the class atmosphere, and everyone practiced with renewed energy.

"Thank you, Kitazawa-sensei!"

As soon as the dismissal bell rang, Choji rushed to the front, grabbing the first spot and proving just how agile a chubby kid could be.

"Hinata, don't leave yet. Wait for me."

When it was Hinata's turn, Kitazawa reminded her softly.

"Ah... um."

Hinata felt the gazes around her and couldn't help blushing.

She took the snack, lowered her head immediately, and stood nervously to the side, clutching the hem of her shirt.

"Naruto, this one is for you."

After everyone left, Kitazawa tossed a snack pack to Naruto.

"I can't take it."

Naruto refused, looking down. "I didn't hit the bullseye."

In the original story, his grades at the Academy were terrible—dead last.

How should I put this?

Naruto was a classic physical monster; he didn't need much technique because his raw power was enough to compensate for everything.

Of course, there was another reason: the Nine-Tails' interference with his chakra.

In reality, Naruto was a one-in-a-million genius.

"It's just a matter of time."

Kitazawa smiled. "Your teacher believes you can definitely do it."

"I..."

Naruto felt a warm current spread through his body.

He gripped the snack pack tightly, not knowing what to say.

"Go back and rest well. See you tomorrow."

Kitazawa patted his shoulder.

"Mm!"

Naruto turned and walked toward the school exit.

When he arrived home, he found a familiar figure waiting.

"Grandpa Third!"

Naruto's face lit up with surprise.
