Chapter 20 - Ranking Tournament (2)

"UHGH" Jen let out a noise Klaus had never heard from her as a sword cut her small and fragile body. The sword was thrown at her from a distance, but its sheer speed was able to catch both of them off guard.

"JEN!" Klaus screamed as Jen fell from the sky. The sword seemed to return into the forest where it was thrown from like a boomerang. However, it was pretty far away from Klaus.

He managed to catch Jen, her small body laid helpless in his hands.

'What the fuck?' Then the sword missed his head by a hair's breadth, breaking apart the ground next to him.

'This is a fucking first year?' Klaus clutched Jen and took cautious steps backwards.

"Seriously? Are you this weak?" The mocking lines came from within the forest. The voice itself wasn't deep at all.

'A girl?' As soon as he finished that train of thought, a shredded muscular girl walked out of the forest.

She looked like a man, completely…her build, short hair, everything reminded Klaus of a man.

She was only able to tell her gender due to her voice and outfit, which all the girls wore in the academy.

Her short green hair and eyes didn't really help her looks at all either.

'Who the hell is she?' He looked down, and it seemed like Jen started healing herself slowly.

"I thought you'd catch that," she chuckled whilst spinning the blade in her hands. "You are an Alderstein, no?"

'How does she—'

"You're probably asking yourself how I know,"

'…' Klaus's eyes twitched, however, he didn't move.

"We are from the same family!" She hit her chest like a gorilla would when asserting dominance. "Well, nearly. I'm not from the main family."

"Main family?" Klaus's question made her face turn as she scratched her head, but he was just stalling, since the injured Jen in his hands was slowly healing herself.

"Yeah? The main family where you brats get to enjoy everything whilst us talented people have to work hard!" She yelled out both of her lungs to Klaus, but he didn't really care at all. In life, you either got lucky or strong.

'I didn't really enjoy anything though, and what does she mean by you brats…I didn't see any other children,' he remembered the bear-like man throwing him out, so he just decided to blind his opponent, with rage of course.

"Maybe you're just trash?" As soon as he said that, her expression started shaking like an avalanche.

'Hope this works,' he sighed, then continued.

"Look at yourself, do you think your looks resemble mine at all?" Klaus chuckled like a maniac would.

"My looks are clearly at the epitome of beauty, meanwhile, you are…" he spat on the ground, "…an ogre!"

Her expression turned into pure rage as she let out a war scream, her face reddened from the rage as the veins on her neck started bulging.

Birds from the forest behind her started flying out into the sky, escaping her earth-shattering scream.

'How is this a kid…'

She launched herself forward. All of her steps were precise. To Klaus, it seemed like she didn't have any wasted movement.

Memories flashed in his head, memories of his father…the bear-like man…training him with a sword.

But he didn't want to rely on martial arts or weapons to win. He had the pride of a mage after all.

She was in Klaus's radius now.

'Now, Jen!' Jen had finished healing herself and was waiting for Klaus's sign.

She clapped her hands. "Sword of the Sun!" A blazing sword appeared above the two of them, and in the blink of an eye, it launched at the girl, who got enveloped in the flames immediately, unable to do anything due to the power difference between Jen and her.

Klaus chuckled with Jen as the girl screamed her lungs out due to the flames. However, she didn't vanish.

"Before you get eliminated, what's your name?" Klaus took slow steps forward.

"My name is…Nina…and I will…" she kept screaming in between the sentences, making it barely audible for Klaus. "I will…NOT LOSE!" She spun around like a cyclone, and the flames started dispersing around her. Like a dying tornado, it died down completely. Her outfit and body were burned, but she still stood, like a true warrior, as she gazed at her opponent.

"What the fuck," that's everything Klaus could say as he looked at the panting Nina in front of him. Blood was gushing out of the burned scars on her body, yet she remained standing.

Jen just floated on his shoulder, she had the same expression as Klaus. She had never seen anything like this either.

She cleared her throat and coughed blood.

"Why don't we team up?""

"No," Klaus rejected her offer outright without even letting her finish.

Nina's expression shook as she struggled to hold the sword in her hand.

"My goal is to be number one," Klaus took a slow step forward. He knew that in her current state, she wouldn't be able to manage a deadly strike. "I will defeat Matthias as well."

"Impossible," she laughed, blood gushing out of her nose as well now.

"Who decided that?" Klaus now stood directly in her reach. "I will be the victor."

"You bastards…" she coughed again, blood getting on Klaus's outfit. "From the main family…always want to win."

"Isn't that everyone?" As soon as Klaus asked that, her eyes started tearing up. "Everyone here wants to win."

"But the way you people win…" Her cough kept cutting her sentences in half. "Trampling on the weak just to stay at the top!" She screamed as her grip tightened on her sword.

"I will do anything to win," Jen's expression seemed shocked at Klaus's sudden revelation.

"Yeah, of course." Nina didn't seem surprised at him.

"Not because of my family," Klaus chuckled. "I made a promise to someone, and I have to keep it." He smiled wholeheartedly at the dying girl in front of him.

Nina herself seemed shocked as well. However, a tiny smile appeared on her lips, but Klaus wasn't able to see it.

She collapsed on the ground, eyes open, mouth agape, scars bleeding everywhere on the field.

"Win, keep your promise," she was gasping for air. "Keep moving forward."

'End her misery,' as soon as Klaus said that, Jen didn't hesitate, despite the conversation that had just happened. "Sword of the Sun," the same sword as earlier, appeared above her and pierced Nina's body, which slowly disappeared like the earlier person, dissolving into absolute nothingness.
