Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: The Chess of Destiny

Froakie didn't waste time. It jumped onto a branch and launched a Lunge.

[SYSTEM: TYPE WARNING]

Move detected: Lunge (Ghost-type). Protean Effect: Froakie is now GHOST-type.

Advice: Axew's Normal-type attacks (Scratch) won't work now. Change tactics!

"Axew, don't attack yet! Dodge right!" the protagonist shouted.

Axew rolled on the ground just in time. The young man narrowed his eyes, seeing how Froakie's body subtly changed color as it became intangible.

"If it uses a water attack, it'll become Water-type again..." the boy thought quickly. "System, give me the reaction time!"

[CALCULATION COMPLETED]

Froakie is preparing to use Bubble. In 3 seconds, it'll become Water-type again. It's vulnerable to physical attacks at that instant.

"Now, Axew! Use Leer to lower its defense while it changes!"

Axew launched a terrifying gaze that made Froakie shudder just as its bubbles were firing. Affected by fear, the frog Pokémon was distracted for a second.

"Don't let it breathe! Use Rage!"

Axew surrounded itself with a violent red aura. Froakie, trying to defend itself, used Quick Attack to attempt to dodge, becoming Normal-type due to its ability.

"I've got you!" the young man exclaimed. "Normal-type doesn't resist Dragon-type power!"

The impact was direct. Axew hit Froakie with devastating force, taking advantage of the opponent's low defense from the previous Leer.

The small ninja was sent flying towards the waterfall, falling to its knees, panting but with a defiant smile.

[SYSTEM NOTIFICATION]

Froakie's Health: 10%. Status: Impressed by your prediction ability.

Froakie stood up, wiped its face with its hand, and before the young man could say anything, walked towards him and touched the Poké Ball on his belt.

Click! The Poké Ball vibrated once... twice... and stopped.

[CAPTURE SUCCESSFUL!]

New companion: Froakie. Experience gained: Axew has risen to Level 8.

System Note: You've shown that information is power. You've won your first strategic battle.

The young man breathed a sigh of relief and released Froakie immediately. The two Pokémon looked at each other and bumped their paws (and claws) in a sign of respect.

"Welcome to the team," the young man said, feeling that for the first time, he was really starting to understand this world.
