Chapter 2 - Awakening

Chapter 2

James's eyes flickered open, greeted by the harsh glare of hospital lights. His head throbbed and his body ached in ways he didn't think possible. He tried to sit up but the bandages wrapped around his arms and torso tugged painfully. "Where am I?" A shadow moved nearby. A man in a white coat approached, his expression unreadable. He introduced himself as Dr Elias. The doctor didn't waste time on pleasantries. "You are lucky to be alive," He said quietly, almost to himself. "Most people don't make it after what you went through."

James struggled to speak. "What...what happened? Where..? Dr Elias studied him, a flicker of something in his eyes pity, curiosity before reaching out into a drawer. He carefully retrieved a small vial filled with shimmering liquid. "This might just save you," He murmured, almost to himself. With practiced precision he administered the content intravenuosly. James felt nothing at first. The pain remained, bandages still tight. But when he tried to lift his arm, something was different. He expected weakness instead his strength felt sharper, faster, almost unnatural.

He frowned, confused. "I...I feel...different. " Dr Elias nodded almost knowingly. "You survived against all odds. You'll feel better soon...much better. Before James could question him further, footsteps echoed in the hallway. The woman from the night before entered, the one he had saved. Her expression softened when she saw him, relief in her eyes."You're awake!" she exclaimed. " I was worried, i couldn't sleep." James glanced at her, still wary. " I thank you for saving me." he said. She smiled, unaware of the changes coursing through him. "It was nothing. You did your part too, i should be the one thanking you."

As the two exchanged words,James caught himself moving slightly faster than expected, his reflexes sharper. He lifted a small tray effortlessly, nearly startling the nurse nearby. James eyes narrowed. He didn't fully understand what was happening to him but one thing was certain he wouldn't be helpless for too long.
