Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Academy of Hypnosis

"We of the Mental Out faction will be awaiting Dr. Ethan's guidance at Tokiwadai."

At the entrance of the apartment, a girl with luxurious purple princess curls bowed deeply. Clad in the familiar Tokiwadai uniform, Ethan recognized her immediately, Junko Hokaze.

The right hand of Shokuhou Misaki… Why would someone of her rank deliver this personally?

Ethan lowered his gaze to the invitation sent by the Queen herself.

Was she watching me ever since that treatment? Thanks to her, I managed to break through to Level 5.

"I personally look forward to seeing Dr. Ethan's combat ability. If we ever have the chance to spar, that would be thrilling. I saw you in action at the hospital, subduing those thugs, it was magnificent."

When Junko looked up again, stars glittered in her pupils.

A telltale sign of being under Shokuhou's control, but Ethan knew their relationship wasn't just that of master and subordinate.

"For your analgesia, Mental Out might just have a solution~☆"

Junko blinked playfully, her tone suddenly flippant, it was clearly Shokuhou speaking through her.

You still remember our little agreement?

To be able to radiate control across this distance… Like a psychic commander from Red Alert. No wonder she's the strongest mind-manipulator.

And now, I can do the same.

Ethan resisted the temptation to hijack the young lady's mind.

With superior computational power, he could probably override Mental Out's command algorithms and seize control, but that would surely alert the Queen.

Not worth it.

"Coming all the way to the hospital, and now delivering this personally… Thank you, Hokaze-san."

Ethan politely saw off the Tokiwadai heiress and closed the door. Komoe peeked over curiously, helping him read the letter.

"I've heard of this. The largest faction at Tokiwadai is centered around Little Shokuhou. It's like a microcosm of Japanese politics… elite girls' schools are really complicated."

To a teacher at an ordinary high school, Komoe preferred schools to be more innocent and straightforward.

"Well, they're all daughters of political and business powerhouses, it's no surprise they clash like rival parties. Wait, did you just call her Little Shokuhou?" Ethan blinked.

"Yup."

So they knew each other?

Ethan mentally opened a "golden-haired folder" and pulled out the memory.

Interesting. Shokuhou and Mitsuko… during a rough patch, they had once been taken in by Komoe.

She really had a habit of "feeding stray cats."

"July 16th… that's tomorrow," Komoe murmured. "Are you going?"

"Yeah. It's time to meet the Queen again. She knows you and I live together, that's a potential risk."

No one, absolutely no one, would ever touch her mind. Not while I'm around.

"So, why would they specifically request you? Tokiwadai's standards are insanely high. I heard even school doctors must have PhDs, and be women," Komoe eyed him suspiciously. "Did you, you know… seduce Shokuhou or something?"

Ethan replied smugly, "It's because of my incredible medical skills."

Komoe burst out laughing.

She couldn't find a good argument.

The intern from the foreign country had become a bit of a legend for his heroic actions at the hospital. Word was, someone from the Shokuhou faction even sent him a banner of appreciation, but they'd kept Tokiwadai's involvement discreet.

"Ah! I'm late for work! Why is my biological clock malfunctioning all of a sudden…?"

The pink-haired teacher panicked, fumbling with her clothes. Hungover from the night before, she hadn't been woken by her usual internal "alarm."

"You're still half-asleep, huh?" Ethan said. "The semester's over. High school exams are done. Only health checkups remain."

"Oh right!"

Halfway out of her bunny pajamas, Komoe sighed in relief.

Summer break was just around the corner. No wonder the leftover trio had gotten so drunk last night.

"I need to recalibrate my internal clock… but we don't even have a wall clock here…"

And so, Komoe began rummaging around the apartment for her phone.

Ding-dong!

The broken doorbell let out a short chirp and died.

"Probably the newspaper delivery. We didn't subscribe. No TV either. And we don't pay NHK fees!" she shouted without turning.

Too practiced. Almost tragic.

To ward off pushy salespeople, Ethan had reinforced the door.

"Could be the milk," Ethan added. "I subscribed to Musashi brand for a month. Growing girls like you need calcium."

He knew her love for milk inside and out.

"Thanks…"

She beamed like a flower, and froze.

"I'm not an elementary schooler!!"

Just then, Ethan opened the door to find… a cow?

No, just a busty, high-foreheaded beauty in a summer uniform.

She had heard strange noises coming from the apartment. After ringing the broken bell, she hesitated before knocking.

"Um… is Ms. Tsukuyomi here?"

Using her surname, so formal. A serious girl, clearly.

As the door swung open, Fukiyose came face to face with a strange black-haired boy.

Behind him, Komoe tripped over her half-removed pajamas and faceplanted.

"Ow!"

Komoe turned around dazedly, catching the shock on her student's face, then realized her own rear was high in the air… and very exposed.

Worse yet, she was about to be exposed for living with a boy.

"Sensei, I'm calling the police!"

No choice.

Just as the girl turned to flee, Ethan's eyes flashed crimson, red birds dancing across his pupils, just like when Shokuhou controlled Hokaze.

Geass!

Fortunately, the old-school phone was still nearby.

Beep! Komoe pressed a button to her temple, looking defeated.

"Clock synchronized. If only this phone could erase memories too…"

A female student just saw me bare-assed while living with a guy… I want to die.

"So that's how you reset your biological clock? Don't tell me you learned that from Shokuhou?" Ethan chuckled. "Relax. I've copied her Mental Out."

Komoe finally noticed that Fukiyose's eyes had lost their luster, replaced by the familiar red bird pattern. She stood frozen.

"I'll just erase her memory of this," Ethan said easily.

Only after surpassing Level 5 could he wield the true power of Mental Out. This wasn't just about hypnotizing someone into suicide, his Geass was omnipotent.

He'd been itching to try it.

Whether memory wipe or altering willpower, it was effortless now. Shokuhou could finely control up to 14 people. He could probably handle 20.

And with simple commands? Triple digits.

And this was without any support devices or emotional breakdowns.

Forget Geass, this was basically Kotoamatsukami, the ultimate genjutsu!

"I know I shouldn't use my powers on students but… sorry, Fukiyose-chan!"

Komoe folded her hands apologetically.

Turns out, Fukiyose was one of her diligent students. Today, she had come to submit a list of students for summer remedial classes, though Fukiyose herself didn't need any.

Komoe always tutored struggling kids for free during break.

"Alright, just set your papers down."

Ethan glanced at the sheet and saw a familiar name, Kamijou Touma.

Tomorrow's health checks would kick off the Railgun arc. I figured out the timeline a month ago by reading Uiharu's memory.

Time to test my full-power abilities.

"So… as long as Komoe sees her, it'll be fine?"

Ethan touched the corner of his eye, feeling a bit like Lelouch. If he used Enhance to change his appearance, he could even get that signature angular anime face.

And when a gentleman truly gains the power to control minds…

"Show me your panties, and leave your morals behind."

"Yes, my lord."

The black-haired girl replied mechanically, fluent English tinted with a Japanese accent, used solely to entertain a gentleman.

The so-called "Iron Wall Girl" who never gave boys the time of day… had fallen in seconds.

Fukiyose slowly lifted her skirt and reached in. At the last moment, Komoe lunged and blocked her.

"Stop right there!"

Censorship beam: triggered. Komoe's pink head: on-screen.

"Using pervy powers on a student is too much! I'm seriously mad now," Komoe pouted. "Wait… could this morning's weird dream also be because of…"

"What?" Ethan blinked.

"Nothing!"

Fine then.

At her protest, the red birds in Ethan's pupils faded.

There would always be someone by his side to keep him grounded, so he'd never lose himself to power.

Fukiyose snapped out of it, unsure what had just happened.

Ethan kindly offered, "Miss, have you been feeling shoulder pain lately? Hard to lift things? Sounds like early-onset shoulder bursitis. You should see a doctor."

Too much bust to bear.

Doctor instincts, courtesy of Heaven Canceller, kicked in.

"Huh? Ms. Tsukuyomi… and who is this boy…?"

"Oh! Right. He's a new student transferring in next term. But it's a secret for now!"

Komoe pushed her student out the door before anything else happened, shutting it quickly behind her.

She finally sighed in relief.

"I'm not going to some high school."

After surviving his previous world's brutal college entrance exams, Ethan had zero desire to do it again. Anime protagonist school life? No thanks.

"No way. Courses here in Academy City are way harder than outside. Even our school isn't easy. You want to go to college, right? I'll tutor you!" Komoe declared with hands on hips.

This nagging teacher-sister type… seriously.

Well then,

Ethan composed himself and said, "Your curriculum is too easy."

"Hey! that's too cocky! My students aren't dumb! This is a matter of national pride!"

Komoe got defensive.

"Fine, I'll take a test," Ethan smirked.

Five minutes later, Komoe stared at several fully completed test papers, stunned.

Chemistry was one thing, he'd memorized the answers. But she could teach every subject, and correcting these was easy for her.

Perfect scores. Across the board.

Worse yet, this "problem student" had used telekinesis to answer everything, didn't even bother holding a pen. He finished faster than she could grade.

"Ethan! No cheating with powers!"

Of course he'd copied the answers straight from Fukiyose's brain. Add to that his newly enhanced superbrain…

He'd seen Charlotte in his past life. When Yuu Otosaka got powers, he abused them just like any normal teenage boy would.

Cheat on exams, flirt with girls…

From the start, Ethan had been a hedonist with no respect for rules. He wouldn't be watching Redo of Healer otherwise.

Now that his memories and the plot had unlocked, he finally felt like himself again. No more sickness. Total freedom.

"I win the bet," Ethan smiled.

Komoe hugged the test sheets, visibly frustrated. She knew, someone with Heal and Multi-Ability didn't need to study.

Only to take.

As his teacher, she had nothing more to offer him.

"Don't worry. I'll never abuse my powers on people close to me."

As he spoke, Ethan gently patted her head.

Soft. Fluffy.

Komoe's cheeks flushed. "Wait, that dream really was…"

My true desire?

Watching this little lady get tamed in seconds, Ethan mused: Headpats. They really work.

Meanwhile, outside the apartment, Fukiyose stood dazed.

"Did I forget something?"

It felt like something important was missing.

"Ah!"

A gust of wind blew by. The black-haired girl instinctively held down her skirt, then blushed crimson.

Something… felt off.

Gone?!

Did I forget to put them on in my rush to leave the house?

I just stood in front of my teacher, and a strange boy, like that?! Shameless!!

Upstairs, Ethan touched the corner of his eye again. "By the way, my X-ray Vision is now at Level 4. This upgraded version should really be called 'Second Sight.'"

Not even a single layer of clothing could stop it now…

A thousand-mile gaze!

Even Mitsuki Unabara would bow before him.

Maybe it was just his imagination, but female characters in Academy City seemed heavily polarized. So far, he'd met a surprising number of busty ones, and a few flat like Komoe.

The cruel divide of chest economics… also known as… oppai disparity.
