Chapter 25 - Selene

Selene's POV

The shards of glass still glittered on the kitchen floor as I pushed myself towards the living room and collapsed into the couch.

My mother's face kept flashing behind my eyelids,I can't go through the feeling of almost losing her again and neither could I stay doing nothing in this house for another second. Not with Carlos probably already rewriting last night's events into whatever neat narrative suited his ego.

I snatched my coat from the hook by the back door, grabbed the keys from the bowl and reached under the bottom kitchen drawer for the small emergency envelope I'd taped there months ago in case Carlos decided it was time to discard me.

I slipped out through the service entrance, avoiding the main foyer cameras. Gladly,my old hatchback waited in the staff parking area like a loyal dog. I slid behind the wheel, started the engine with shaking hands and pulled out before I could second-guess myself.
