Chapter 8 - The First Pokémon Battle

"Class Monitor Magnus—I'm your daddy!!"

"Transfer the money over."

Aaron smiled faintly as he spoke in a calm, casual tone.

That nearly made Class Monitor Magnus explode with rage.

His eyes bulged wide, round with fury.

Meanwhile, Aaron felt incredibly refreshed inside.

So satisfying.

Getting paid by someone first thing in the morning.

Hopefully there'd be more classmates like this in the future—rich and stupid.

"Holy crap… it really is a Shiny Froakie!!"

"That thing isn't cheap! Didn't they say Aaron's family situation was average!?"

"Could Aaron be a hidden rich kid!?"

"I know where Aaron lives. His parents are just ordinary workers. Hidden rich kid my ass."

"Then where did that Shiny Froakie come from!?"

"You're asking me? Who should I ask? Maybe he just lucked into it…"

...

The surrounding students whispered among themselves.

Magnus's expression was ugly. He never imagined that this poor kid would actually have a Shiny Froakie.

Not only had he lost money—

He'd been completely humiliated.

And his spotlight had been stolen.

With a dark expression, Magnus pulled out his phone and transferred the money to Aaron. A trace of pain flashed across his face.

One hundred thousand.

That was his entire month's allowance.

But his pride mattered more.

When Aaron saw the 100,000 credited to his bank account, a bright smile spread across his face.

"Ding~ Mission complete: Slap in the Face!!"

"Congratulations! You've obtained Pokémon Candy (Newbie) ×1, Energy Cube ×1."

The system's completion notification echoed in Aaron's ear.

"Tap, tap, tap…"

Just then, the familiar sound of leather shoes echoed from outside the classroom.

The students jolted and hurried back to their seats.

The classroom door opened, and a middle-aged man with graying hair walked in.

It was their homeroom teacher, Alaric.

Alaric glanced at the Pokémon beside the students and smiled faintly.

"It looks like everyone has successfully captured their first Pokémon. Congratulations."

"Starting today, we'll begin practical Pokémon training classes. Do your best to raise your Pokémon's combat strength."

"As you all know, the college entrance exam consists of both written and practical components. The written exam tests Pokémon-related knowledge."

"The practical exam, of course, is Pokémon battles."

"For the remaining three months, the school will shift its focus toward Pokémon combat training. I hope you all seize this opportunity and improve your Pokémon as much as possible."

"Alright, everyone—bring your Pokémon and follow me."

Alaric looked at the students with satisfaction, then led them out.

Before long, they arrived at an indoor Pokémon battle arena.

Alaric turned to the class and said,

"Alright… are there any two students willing to volunteer and give everyone a Pokémon battle demonstration?"

The students were eager, but none dared to raise their hands.

"Teacher, I'll do it!"

At that moment, Magnus raised his right hand.

"Good!" Alaric smiled. "As expected of the class monitor—very responsible."

Then he asked,

"Anyone else?"

Seeing that the opponent was Magnus, the students immediately lowered their heads.

Magnus shot a look at one of his lackeys.

The lackey understood instantly and shouted,

"Teacher, Aaron's Pokémon is a Shiny Froakie! Let him battle!"

Those words immediately caught Alaric's attention. He turned to Aaron.

"Oh?"

"Aaron, then you'll battle the class monitor."

Aaron was speechless. He didn't need to think to know this was Magnus's doing.

Since you're shoving your face back over for another beating, don't blame me.

He sighed inwardly.

"Ding~ Triggered mission: Slap in the Face 2!"

"Magnus's face is still itching. He needs you to slap him awake again. Go, young man! Win the Pokémon battle and shout in front of everyone: 'Magnus, you're useless!!'"

"Mission reward: Pokémon Candy (Beginner) ×1, Random One Piece Devil Fruit ×1."

The system's cute voice rang out again, making Aaron grin.

"Understood, Teacher."

He nodded to Alaric and walked to one side of the battlefield.

Magnus stepped onto the opposite side.

Their gazes met.

Magnus's eyes were filled with provocation.

Aaron looked at him as if he were staring at an idiot.

"I'll serve as the referee for this match," Alaric announced.

"This will be a one-on-one Pokémon battle."

"Whichever Pokémon loses the ability to fight will be declared the loser."

"The match begins!"

As Alaric finished speaking, both Magnus and Aaron threw their Poké Balls.

Charmander and Froakie appeared on the field.

Aaron immediately used the system to scan Charmander's data.

[Name: Charmander]

[Gender: Male]

[Nature: Cheerful]

[Type: Fire]

[Ability: Blaze]

[Base Stats Total: 309]

[Level: Newbie (Mid Stage)]

[Pokémon Potential: Elite]

[Moves Known: Metal Claw (Basic), Scratch (Basic), Ember (Basic)]

[Description: Charmander, the Lizard Pokémon. The flame on its tail symbolizes its life force…]

...

So this Charmander had already reached mid–newbie stage.

Rich kids really were different.

He must've fed it plenty of good stuff.

It had even inherited Metal Claw.

No wonder Magnus was so confident.

After all, Froakie naturally counters Charmander, and Ember's damage is limited—

But with Metal Claw, Charmander could still deal solid damage.

"Charmander, use Ember!"

Magnus attacked first.

"Ha—!"

Charmander opened its mouth and spat a burst of embers toward Froakie.

"Froakie, use Bubble."

Aaron's expression remained calm.

"Ribbit—"

Froakie grabbed the foam around its neck, tore off a mass of bubbles, and hurled it forward.

"Puff—!"

The bubbles collided with the embers, instantly extinguishing them.

The remaining bubbles continued forward.

"Hah—!"

They struck Charmander directly.

Charmander let out a pained cry and was knocked to the ground.

"Charmander…!"

"How is this possible…?"

Magnus's eyes widened, disbelief flashing across his face.
