You really gotta dig in your heart if you wanna get to the root of an issue. Anyone who has really dug into X-men knowthe heart of the issue facing mutants. Set aside the issue with Sublime, as that lifeform doesn't seem to exist as I couldn't find it when I was healing Lorena. First thing you have to do as a mutant that can cure and detect abnormalities in a person right? The issue with mutants has always been racisim.
If you look at past comics it their story, was a vessel for racial issues. Marvel championed several social reforms one of major one has always been racial divide. It was actually the driving force in the 60s or 70s, I can't seem to recall, for marvel to pass on the Captain America title to Falcon. One of the reasons I loved the development of Captain America and the Winter Soldier was their exploration of that and the racial inequality. The two mutant leaders were supposed to mirror the two different activists approach with Magneto being Malcom X and Proffessor X mirroring MLK Jr. The irony of Xavier and Malcom X having opposing approaches amused me to no end.
I know the outcome of both paths. The amusing part being Magneto joining the X-Men and then in the end the mutants going with Magneto's original ideal and establishing their own seperate nation. Why? Because every ethnicity and even Inhumans drove them to. Sentinels, genocide, indifference, plague, the madness the drove Wanda to M-Day.
It's a feeling I know all too well. Every ethnic group seeming to be against you. In my past life after covid I lived it. It's probably how Muslims in America felt after 9/11, and you would think because of that they wouldn't join in. A Latino starting a chant for me to go back to China, picked up by every ethnicity in the vacinity. I got out of there quick scared for my safety.
Here I am faced with an ethnic group, trying to be invisible and just live their life. If things go the way of comics and I have no reason not to believe so, will face persecution by pretty much every group on the planet. It's funny how the world will be okay with people with powers like Captain America, but introduce them to someone like Blink... Heck if the later phase of the MCU was going to make x-gene activations more prominent that too would start scaring people. Look at my parents in this life...
Why did it come to this? I paid my dues. I wanted to perfect a craft here and just keep my bro safe as he powers up and adventures into I guess "caretakerhood" which I'm guessing is when he has to leave Marvelverse id that becomes an option or he is called at just being in the multiverse. I caught that wording of OAA and our caretaker he can't be in the same level as OAA in his domain. I was actually after when all was said and done going start an intergalactic restaurant/farm. Using planets as a farm and own mutliple restaurants around sentient civilizations. Inspiration from one of my favorite mutants Lila Cheney the intergalactic rockstar.
Looking around the room, can I bare to leave these people to such a messy fate? Will they even be able to make the ressurection chambers of Krakoa if I do? The timeline is so messed up, but I supposed since Proteus and I are functionally immortal it doesn't matter when we appear in the storyline, we still need the other members of the Five though but no Jean Grey or a member of the Summers family in sight...
F**k you OAA and you to caretaker you know the choice I would have to make. It isn't much of a choice to begin with. The world would turn on these people, in some storylines even the Avengers were the villains of Xmen comics. I am not about to be one of them.
I am not about to be a leader, I dont think I have that in me. I will however help, and so for the next few hours we hammered out some plans. First, I told them how pretty much any subject has a tutorial on Youtube, and mushroom cultivation was one of them. I shared some of the basics I knew in my past life as I wanted a farm to table restaurant with plenty of mushrooms. I even told them what little I know about mealworms and how many countries actually eat them, in my head I remembered even the EU would allow for mealworm powder.
We drafted plans for the future, exploration for uninhabited islands. I cautioned them about Krakoa, I told them it could be a home but it was parasitic and needed our energy to survive. I told them I could communicate with it if they ever find it, if we go that route. I also told them we could settle off world, the universe is vast! They looked at me skeptically, sure wencan exist but aliens and livable planets and interstellar travel is far fetched. I had to get them to keep an open mind and I would demonstrate another day as it was getting late.
We also talked finances, and trying to acquire land. The little girl was sage, and she could help analyze matkets to help with investments. I told her she should get her hacking skills up and maybe syphon some cash from criminal and terrorist organizations and pin it on each other. Worse comes to worst I have no qualms defending ourselves against criminals. I told them that aside from being self sustainting on food that should be our other top priority. If anyone has good ideas to make some and still be undetected well it should be explored. I emphasized that we have gifts we should use them to better the community. I also said if they could capture some rofents and start the mushroom cultivation I could accelerate the process. All in all a fruitful meeting, but damn if I didn't wish that these people didn't exist in this universe.
