Chapter 76 - Limit to This

Lucien's POV

I stayed there for a few seconds after the door clicked shut behind me, my back still pressed against the wood, listening to the faint sound of Jason's car pulling away. The engine faded down the street, tires humming softly against the asphalt, until there was nothing left but silence.

I pushed off the door and moved deeper into the apartment.

My heels came off first, dropped carelessly by the entrance. My bag followed, landing on the chair like I didn't care where it ended up. The lights stayed off. I didn't need them. I knew this place too well in the dark.

The quiet should've been comforting. Instead, it felt heavy.

I walked into the kitchen, poured myself a glass of water I didn't really want, and leaned against the counter, staring at nothing. My phone buzzed in my hand.

A notification.

Instagram.

Jason had already posted.

I opened it before I could stop myself.
