Chapter 24 - Necessary Warmth

In the morning, Ye Jun found himself entangled with Meihui on his bed. He blinked in confusion before he remembered the previous day, and his eyes dimmed.

He looked down at Meihui sleeping soundly in his arms and smiled. Nothing intense had happened between them, and their clothes were intact too.

But he was far happier waking up like this than even on days he had enjoyed with beautiful women, like supermodels.

He closed his eyes and lay back, trying to wake up properly this time. Last night, after he returned from the Black Wind Wildlands, Meihui had given him the warm embrace he needed to heal his wounds.

She didn't ask or say anything. She just kept his heart filled with warmth while he patched his wounds, even if it hurt him. He needed that healing, otherwise the wounds would have continued to ache for months and become permanent scars.

They still hurt, but he felt much better than the previous night.

'She ignored her meditation to comfort me.'

It made him happy.

They slept all night in each other's arms, sharing an intimacy that Ye Jun had never felt before, even though he had many hookups in his previous life.

This one night was much better than all of them combined. It strengthened his belief that he needed a harem whom he could love dearly and feel this intimacy with all the time.

'Perhaps it will heal my past wounds.'

He sighed and tried to sit up without disturbing Meihui, but she instantly woke the moment she noticed the movement.

She blinked at the situation she found herself in, a tinge of red running across her fair nape, as she looked up and asked softly, "How are you feeling?"

"Much better," Ye Jun smiled lightly. "Thanks a lot for being there for me. I don't think you realize how important it is for me."

"I-It's fine," she looked away. "Also, I'm sorry. If I had spread my Soul Sense wider, I could have saved them."

Ye Jun looked at her guilty face and realized she must be blaming herself for this. His gaze softened as he patted her hand and said, "I can't blame you for prioritizing your life. Besides, we didn't know something like this would happen."

"Still...."

"Stop blaming yourself." Ye Jun sighed. "Because if we're playing the blame game, then I'm the whole reason they were targeted."

Meihui's eyes widened and she was going to say something, but Ye Jun just smiled at her and said, "It's fine, Meihui. I know how to deal with this."

Meihui pursed her lips and nodded. She got off the bed and straightened her clothes, which looked out of sorts and just embarrassed her even further.

Still, she looked at him and said, "If you want anything else from me, you can just ask. I'll help."

Ye Jun knew what she was referring to. It was easy to see the burning hatred for the Ye Clan in her eyes. It warmed his heart to know that his risk paid off and he actually found such a kind and empathetic person.

Meihui might get easily flustered in matters of the opposite sex and romance, but she was also determined, kind, and decisive. He took a liking to her.

He shook his head and said, "No, it is something I'll do myself. It's something that I owe them."

Meihui nodded in understanding and said, "Still, tell me if there is anything. I've recovered a portion of my strength."

Ye Jun thought for a moment, as his lips curled in a cold smile. "Then, can I go a bit overboard now? It'll risk the Ye Clan targeting me with much more intensity."

"Whatever you wish!" Meihui held his hand and said. "I'll protect you, so do whatever you want."

"Thanks. I would have hated to be on the submissive end even after all of this," Ye Jun said.

Meihui opened her mouth but stopped midway and turned sideways. With a frown, she muttered, "What are they planning now?"

"Hmm?" Ye Jun got confused.

Meihui pointed outside and said, "Someone is coming to fetch you. I'm guessing this has something to do with yesterday's matter."

An evil glint passed through Ye Jun's eyes as he grinned. "Suits me better. I'll go deal with them."

Meihui nodded and said, "I'll be nearby, so do whatever you want without any worries."

"I like having this kind of backing," Ye Jun said as he went for the door and left the hut.

There were a lot of things they needed to talk about, but at this moment, the only thing they needed to do was trust each other. And Ye Jun was going to do that.

He felt vulnerable doing that, but he still did it.

'I won't let last night affect my future that much. Wan'er would scold me for that.'

By then, a familiar guard appeared outside the boundary, looking at everything in disdain as he scoffed, "Even I live better than this trash young master."

"What do you want?" Ye Jun asked, pretending to have just spotted him.

The guard turned toward him and said, his voice holding no respect, "The Elders have summoned you. If you resist, I have permission to drag you there by all means."

His smile said he wanted Ye Jun to resist so he could have some fun.

"Sure." Ye Jun agreed right away. He wanted this for his plans anyway.

The guard got confused for a second before shrugging. Both of them left the poorer section and headed toward the center of the Ye Manor.

The familiar structure soon appeared before Ye Jun's eyes, the same place where the Elders held their council and governed the whole clan.

While the guard stayed back, he entered the building and, after a short walk, found himself in the same hall with the same faces judging him from their high pedestals.

The Elders, however, held pure animosity this time.

Ye Heng seemed to desire to rip him apart, while Ye Jun's father just sat there on his seat contemplating something.

There was one more face that brought a wave of rage rushing through his veins, which he quickly suppressed as he looked away from Ye Chen, who was accompanied by his three lackeys. Three lackeys.

Ye Jun took a deep breath and decided to do this.

"Greetings, Father."
