Chapter 10 - I'm Your Other Half

Kayra

They all hate me, and I know they do. Even though I'm the strongest Alpha in my pack and the most likely to become their leader in the future, they still hate me.

But I don't even care.

Let them hate me, because I will never, ever, be able to forgive them.

From the moment I was born, I was told I shouldn't have been born. I was the most cursed thing the North had ever seen.

The ceremonies held for my brothers, with whom I share only a part of my blood, were not held for me. They didn't climb the snowy mountains of the to and shout my name.

My mother was treated like a slave in a house where these vicious mutts tormented her.

Although my father was one of the strongest alpha males of the century in his youth, he had a weak heart. He was cowardly, insatiable, and despicable. Even if I'm the only one who thinks this about him, he never deserved anything more than that.

He had argued with his fated mate, his wife, and caused her to leave him. But that woman, my stepmother, had planned this separation at that time. Once again, she thought he would regret it and come after her to make amends.

He didn't do that.

Instead, during one of the pack hunts, he had rescued a member of the pack captured by the southerners, and then spent a night with that member. And that weak, fragile woman was one of the Omegas in the pack.

Although she was a weak, frail woman who tired easily and was often ill, she was one of the most beautiful women the north had ever seen.

She had long, blonde hair and snow-white skin, when you looked into her eyes, you felt as if you were diving into the depths of the ocean.

She lit up every room she entered, and she didn't even need to use her pheromones to attract any Alpha.

That's exactly why my father fell in love with her.

My father, who had a happy family with his fated mate, two sons, and a daughter, suddenly appeared before his wife with a woman who was nothing more than an omega.

She snapped. She began to torture her, and as the days passed, she started to involve the other people in the pact in this tension that had developed between them.

My mother was now an enemy to the entire northern pack, she no longer had a single day that passed peacefully and without trouble.

Then that woman tricked my father's mind too.

No matter how much time my father spent with my mother, she was unable to get pregnant for a long time.

That woman turned my mother against my father and began to humiliate her in every way. She threw her pride aside and started saying things like, 'if she is really an Omega, she should have been more fertile than any other woman', about my mother.

But my mother, believing that she could fit into my father's weak heart, was deceived by his sweet words. That's why, no matter what kind of treatment she was subjected to, she never left his side.

Then one day she suddenly became pregnant with me. That day the sky was dark and gloomy even in the daytime, but the full moon was dazzling in all its brilliance.

Everyone thought it was a sign of a blessing at first. If even the moon was making its presence so known, they thought the Moon Goddess must be eagerly awaiting this child's birth.

That's why my mother's life was peaceful for a short time, more so than ever before. Even though my father's wife continued to plot against her, it was as if my mother was being protected by some force.

But the night she gave birth to me, everything changed for my mother.

Just like the day she got pregnant with me, there was a full moon in the sky again. But this full moon was much bigger, brighter, and dazzling to look at. It was almost as if it were on fire.

I was born with a very different appearance from the Northerners. I wasn't blonde like them, nor did I have snow-white skin. On the contrary, I was born with coal-black hair and a dark brown body, as if I were a traitor who had fallen among them.

Neither of these physical traits were present in my mother or father. The only thing that made people believe I had a connection to them was that I had my mother's eyes.

This situation was met with suspicion among the pack. First, rumors started, then spread to everyone, becoming a topic of daily conversation. They said my mother got pregnant not by my father, but by another man.

Although my father initially dismissed the possibility, he began to pretend to believe the rumors because he couldn't bear his wife's nagging any longer, given his weak and broken heart.

But my mother died shortly after giving birth to me. So there was no longer any reason to blame her or subject her to humiliation.

As soon as my mother died, I saw her spirit. Her soul was gray and transparent, gliding toward me as if defying gravity, enveloping me. First she caressed my cheek, then leaned over to my ear and whispered words I couldn't understand.

But somehow, those words stuck in my mind. Because of my small body, before I could even reach to touch her, her soul shattered into pieces and slowly faded away like mist. But when she was completely gone, I saw all the pain her soul had endured.

All of my mother's memories filled my mind when I was a newborn baby in a cradle.

I didn't learn all this pain she endured from someone else. The reason I know all of this is that I saw all my mother's memories before her spirit faded away. I saw everything she experienced, from the moment she was born.

But I only saw the memories that left a wound in her heart.

From the moment I was born, I was cast aside. And I swore that I would take revenge on those who caused my mother's soul to be torn apart.

Before I was even one year old, they tried to poison me, when I was five, they locked me up somewhere and left me to starve. Somehow I managed to survive them all. The rumors that 'this child is cursed' eventually turned into words that 'this child is blessed'.

This change of events didn't please my father's wife, my stepmother, whom I was now forced to call mother. For her, it was impossible for me to be a blessed child, but rumors started to grow.

It was also impossible for me to beat his Alpha sons, but I did beat them. I was always the leader in strength competitions, and I caught the most game in hunts.

As I grew older and wiser, the memories of my mother swirling in my mind made me question their reality. I had never encountered alphas with such power before. I thought these were just tricks my mind was playing on me.

Was seeing the spirit of a dead person and bearing witness to their memories a real power, or was it just my mind playing tricks on me? I thought about this a lot.

But one day when they locked me in the garage, everything changed when I found my mother's diary tucked away in a corner among unused items.

It was dusty, with pages that had been stuck together for a long time. Some of the writing on the pages had been erased because it had gotten wet. But what I could read was enough to tell me that the memories I saw were real.

At that moment, as a small child, I swore to kill them all and wipe out this pack. From that moment on, it wasn't a mere revenge plan.

But when I was fourteen, a few days after I went through my first shift, something unexpected happened. They kidnapped the daughter of the southern pack's leader. That night, I witnessed that tiny girl slaughter dozens of members of the northern pack.

I could have stopped everything, yet I didn't. I liked what she did. I fell in love with the wild look in her eyes, her blood-stained hands, and her face contorted with her intense emotions.

And at that moment, I realized she was my fated mate.
