Chapter 14 - Two Quests Left

Only two quest sheets remained in Arelion's hands.

He stared at them while walking, eyes half-lidded, as if hoping one would magically disappear.

"Only two left…" he muttered.

Inner thought:If being king required farming, history would've had a lot more abdications.

The destination for the sixth quest appeared soon after.

And it was—

"…Big," Arelion said flatly.

The farmland stretched wide, far wider than he'd imagined. Rows upon rows of soil spread under the sun, bordered by simple fences and scattered tools.

Before he could properly react, several villagers approached them with hopeful faces.

"Oh! You're the adventurers who accepted our quest?"

Arelion opened his mouth. "Actually, we—"

"Yes," Elayne said calmly. "We're here for the quest."

The villagers' faces immediately brightened.

"Great! Then please, start right away!"

Tools were placed into their hands. Instructions were given. Work was assigned.

All in under ten seconds.

Arelion slowly turned his head toward Elayne.

"…Why did you say yes?"

She did not answer.

She didn't even look at him.

Arelion sighed and turned to Iris. "Iris. Call me."

Iris walked ahead, pretending not to hear a thing.

Inner thought:I see. I've been abandoned.

Quest 6 – Farming (Against His Will)

With a tired expression, Arelion activated Value Sight.

The world shifted.

Not numbers—But worth.

He could see which soil held richer nutrients. Which seeds had higher growth potential. Which patches would produce herbs worth actual coin.

Silently, discreetly, he adjusted things.

The villagers received a perfectly acceptable harvest.

Nothing more.

The truly valuable soil, seeds, and nutrients?

They quietly disappeared into Arelion's inventory.

Inner thought:Who told you to order a king to farm? Enjoy your "decent" crops.

By the time the sun tilted slightly, the villagers were satisfied.

Quest completed.

Arelion's back, however, was not.

Quest 7 – The Last One

The seventh quest location was close.

Very close.

Arelion groaned as they walked. "My back hurts."

Iris glanced at him. "Then why is an old man adventuring?"

Arelion inhaled sharply, ready to retort—

"We're here," Elayne said.

"…Already?"

Iris immediately ran ahead to confirm the quest, leaving Arelion standing there with a deadpan stare.

Inner thought:This party has zero respect for hierarchy.

Work began quickly.

Once again, Value Sight activated.

This field wasn't special.

Just ordinary farmland.

Which was perfect.

Arelion efficiently gathered high-quality herbs and materials hidden among the crops—nothing suspicious, nothing strange. Just good resources that would sell well.

Pure profit.

While working, his ears caught something.

"…Did you hear? That old dungeon near the hills—"

"They say it's still full of treasure."

"But no one dares enter anymore."

Arelion froze.

The herbs slipped from his fingers.

Dungeon.

Treasure.

Abandoned value.

His expression sharpened.

Inner thought:That's… interesting.

He finished the work faster than necessary after that.

As the quest concluded, Arelion folded the final paper neatly.

Two quests done.

Rank increase soon.

And then—

He glanced toward the distant hills.

A dungeon waited.

And value, once abandoned, was exactly the kind he specialized in reclaiming.
