Chapter 55 - Awareness Comes First

(PH 2)

The corridor remained silent.

Only the weak buzzing sound of the damaged lights echoed through the abandoned building.anie still stood frozen breathing unevenly.

Eyes locked toward the place where the air itself had cracked seconds earlier.

Even now her chest still felt tight.

"…that wasn't normal…"

The woman leaned quietly against the old concrete wall.

"No." ,her answer came calmly too calmly.

"That was reality losing stability for a moment."Anie slowly looked at her.

"…how are you saying that like it's normal?"

"Because I've seen worse."

The flickering light above them dimmed again briefly.

Shadows shifted across the hallway walls.for a moment anie suddenly noticed how strange this woman truly felt.not dangerous, not human either.

Like someone who had already walked too far into something irreversible.

"…what exactly are Called people…"

The question came out quieter than expected.

The woman stayed silent for several seconds.

As if carefully deciding how much truth Anie was ready to hear.then finally

she stepped away from the wall slowly.

"Called people are not chosen heroes."

Her footsteps echoed softly through the corridor.

"They are people whose consciousness begins interacting with fractures."Anie frowned immediately.

"…consciousness?"the woman nodded slightly.

"Human minds constantly observe reality."

"They process movement."

"Time."

"Sound."

"Space."

"Patterns."

...

"But the human brain is designed to ignore instability."Anie listened silently.

"Because if humans noticed everything…"woman's voice became quieter.

"…they would lose their minds."

Cold air moved through the broken hallway windows.the building suddenly felt even darker.

"Most people continue living because their brains simplify reality."

"They ignore things that feel impossible."

"They rationalize fear."

"They dismiss abnormality."

"But some people…"...Her eyes slowly shifted toward Anie again.

"…fail to ignore it."

Anie's heartbeat slowed uneasily.

"…because of trauma…"

"Sometimes." woman stopped walking.

"Trauma."

"Isolation."

"Emotional collapse."

"Obsessive guilt."

"Psychological instability."

"Extreme emotional conditions can slowly change perception."the silence after those words felt heavy.anie lowered her eyes slightly.

"…Sam…"the woman noticed immediately.

"Samantha started noticing fractures because fear forced her awareness open." the hallway lights flickered softly again.

"She questioned what she was seeing,

she became sensitive to the pauses."

"The moments where reality behaved incorrectly."

Anie remembered Sam's exhausted face.her nervous voice her fear and suddenly those memories no longer felt distant.

"…then what about me…"the woman stared at her silently.

"You buried guilt too deeply."words landed sharply

"After Samantha died, your mind became trapped inside unresolved emotional repetition."anie's fingers tightened slowly.

"You replayed the same thoughts constantly."

"What if I listened?,what if I noticed?,

what if I stayed?"every sentence hit painfully close.

"And eventually…"woman stepped closer quietly.

"…your awareness started reaching beyond normal perception."anie looked away.

"…so becoming Called means becoming mentally broken?"

"No."answer came immediately.

"It means your consciousness stopped ignoring instability."

answer made Anie freeze slightly the woman continued calmly.

"Some people collapse when they notice fractures."

"Others adapt Awareness itself is not weakness."

!!pause.

"But awareness without stability becomes dangerous."

The flickering lights buzzed louder briefly.

"Called people are not powerful because they can destroy things.they are dangerous because reality starts responding to them."Anie's breathing slowed slightly.

"…responding…"the woman nodded once.

"You still think your abilities are supernatural, they aren't."

"Then what are they?"woman looked toward the cracked hallway ceiling above them.

"Interference."

!!silence .

"when your emotional state destabilizes…"

"The fractures around you react, that reaction affects physical reality."

Anie frowned again still confused.

"…I still don't understand."the woman looked back at her.

"Have you ever seen glass shatter from vibration?"

"…yes."

"The vibration itself is invisible.but the effect becomes physical."

Anie stayed silent.listening carefully now.

"Called people function similarly.your consciousness creates resonance with fractures."

"When emotional pressure spikes…the surrounding reality destabilizes temporarily."

Anie remembered:exploding pressure,

shattered walls,violent shockwaves,

air bursting outward

"…so I'm not creating power…"

"No." woman answered immediately.

"You are interfering with stability."a cold chill moved through Anie's spine.

"The blast you created earlier wasn't energy."

"It was reality violently correcting imbalance around your emotional surge."the hallway suddenly felt colder after hearing that.

"…that sounds impossible…"

woman gave a faint smile, not mocking,

almost tired.

"Humans say impossible whenever reality behaves differently than expected."

She slowly walked toward one of the broken windows nearby.rain could be seen falling outside beneath the neon lights of Astra City.

"The world is not as stable as humans believe.fractures exist everywhere,

In buildings,in people,in memories."

"Most are harmless but when unstable consciousness resonates with them…"

She stopped speaking briefly.

"…interference begins."Anie stared at her silently.

"…is that why weird things keep happening around me…"

"Yes."

"The headaches the pressure in your chest.the moments where time feels delayed. feeling that something is wrong with the air around you."

Anie slowly lowered her head.because every single thing matched.

"…then what was that earlier…"

"The distortion?"anie nodded slowly.

woman looked toward the hallway again.

"A fracture response.the world hesitated briefly because your awareness reacted emotionally."

"…I froze reality?"

"No." calmly.

"You noticed the gap between movements."that sentence sent another uncomfortable chill through Anie.

"Your ability is still incomplete.at your current stage...awareness comes before control."hallway lights dimmed again.

"You can sense instability.you can unconsciously interfere with motion.you can feel fractures before they fully react.but you still lack understanding."

Anie stayed silent trying to process everything.

"…then why do Hunters kill Called people?"

For the first time the woman became quieter.the atmosphere changed slightly.

"They believe unstable Called eventually become catastrophic."

"…catastrophic how?"

woman looked directly into her eyes.

"Reality distortion worsens with psychological collapse."Carefully.

"Some Called lose emotional stability completely.they stop distinguishing perception from reality. fractures react more violently.people nearby start getting hurt."

"…so Hunters just murder people before that happens?"

"They believe they are protecting the world."

!!pause....

"Fear makes humans cruel."rain outside intensified softly.

"But remember this carefully, Anie."stepped closer once more.

"Hunters are not afraid of power, they are afraid of awareness."

Silence filled the corridor again heavy.

uncomfortable anie slowly looked down at her trembling hands.

"…what happens if I lose control…"

The woman didn't answer immediately.

Instead she looked toward the darkness deeper inside the abandoned building. Then quietly said,

"That depends on whether you accept what you're becoming…"

flickering lights buzzed violently once again.and suddenly anie felt it that strange pressure.not outside inside her head.for less than a second, the dripping rain beyond the broken window stopped midair. everything became silent.frozen,still...

Then reality moved again instantly

anie staggered backward breathing heavily.

"…what the hell was that…"

woman watched her carefully.and for the first time there was genuine concern in her eyes.....

"…your awareness is evolving faster than it should."...
