Chapter 7 - Chapter 7- Josh in the crowd

The flow of students thickened as they were ushered toward the main hall.

What had once been scattered movement turned orderly, guided by faculty members and senior staff who stood at intervals, directing people into designated lines.

Josh found himself separated naturally, guided by instinct and half-formed memories into a section meant for his year.

Students went into Rows that formed quickly.

The hall itself was massive far larger than it first appeared from the outside. It stretched wide and deep, a sweeping interior designed to hold crowds without ever feeling cramped; Tiered seating rose in clean, structured layers, easily accommodating over two thousand students, with space to spare.

The ceiling arched high above, reinforced with sleek beams and panels that reflected light downward in a soft, controlled glow.

It looked huge, bigger than the guide he was in before.

Josh took his seat, posture straight without thinking

Around him, the noise slowly dulled into a low hum conversations overlapping, laughter cut short, whispers trading speculation Screens mounted high along the walls displayed the academy crest, rotating slowly, punctuated by lines of text welcoming attendees to the assembly.

So this seems really serious, Josh thought.

He let his gaze wandered around, trying to piece together the situation.

The memories he'd inherited were a little clearer now, aligning with what he saw.

Assemblies like this didn't happen often, When they did, it usually meant changing into new policies, new opportunities, or new pressure from the authorities.

His ears twitched almost imperceptibly.

Josh focused, narrowing his attention.

Sounds sharpened, separating themselves from the blur,

Conversations a few rows away drifted into clarity.

"…heard it's someone from the central council…"

"…no way they'd send someone that high for just an academy…"

"…scholarships, maybe? Or recruitment…"

Josh didn't turn his head. He just listened to the voices around him, trying to get the gist of what is really happening...

No one seemed to know exactly who was coming, but the weight of the event was obvious. Whoever it was, their presence alone carried authority enough to pull this many students into silence.

Josh exhaled slowly.....

"So that's what this is about," he murmured under his breath.

Aegis remained quiet, but he felt a faint acknowledgment ripple through his awareness, as if it were processing the same information.

Minutes passed.

The hall lights dimmed slightly, and the background chatter faded almost instantly. A figure stepped onto the stage not the important guest, but a senior academy official. The man's voice carried easily, amplified without being harsh.

He spoke about the traditions of the school,

About excellence,

About the academy's role in shaping the future.

Josh listened, but only half-attentively, The speech followed a familiar rhythmic reassurance wrapped in ambition.

It wasn't actually meaningless, but it wasn't the point either.

Then the tone shifted.

The official straightened, as his expression sharpened

"It is our honor today," he said, "to welcome an individual whose contributions to education, governance, and advancement need no introduction."

That got Josh's attention.

The hall stirred as even those pretending not to care leaned forward slightly.

He paused deliberately putting the atmosphere in a tight tension.

Then the doors at the side of the hall opened in which an individual entered they didn't rush as

They walked with calm assurance, accompanied by a small group of aides

There were no dramatic flair, no exaggerated display showing of a high rich politician yet the presence felt was undeniable.

Conversations from students died instantly as it was about to begin.

Josh felt pressure against his chest.

High-ranking, his instincts told him.

The speech that followed was long but calculated.

The individual spoke of opportunity, of nurturing talent, of investing in the next generation. They highlighted programs, scholarships, special pathways for those who proved themselves worthy. Every sentence felt polished, measured, and intentional.

Josh listened and frowned slightly.

"There seems to be a dimming intention to what exactly they protracting.

They're selling something," he thought.

But there was a subtle self-congratulation woven into every word, a quiet reminder of power and generosity.

To Josh, it sounded less like inspiration and more like controlled bragging an announcement of influence disguised as goodwill.

Around him, students listened with wide eyes.

Some looked hopeful,

Others looked ambitious,

A few looked wary.

Josh leaned back slightly, gaze drifting as the speech continued. His attention slipped not out of boredom, but curiosity.

He scanned the crowd looking...

Rows, Faces and Familiar silhouettes.

He searched for her without fully realizing it and he was drawn by the lingering clarity of the memory that still sat vividly in his mind. He caught glimpses of light brown hair, sharp eyes, familiar profiles but each time, it wasn't her.

No luck.

Josh sighed quietly and refocused on the stage just as the speaker reached their conclusion.

"This academy," the individual said, voice firm, "will not merely observe potential. We will cultivate it."

Applause filled the hall, loud and sustained.

Josh clapped along, slower than most.

Whatever was coming next, whatever changes this visit would bring he could feel it settling into place already!!

And somewhere beyond the walls of the academy, unseen and unheard for now, something else was stirring...
