To break through to Foundation Establishment, everyone needs resources. And it is widely known that the more spirit roots you have, the harder it is to condense the Foundation Pillar. At the Qi Condensation stage, everyone focuses on the amount of Qi the dantian can condense and store, as well as the diameter. If you can condense a dantian of 2 mm at the first layer of Qi Condensation, it doubles for every layer. But to break through from Qi Condensation to Foundation Establishment, you need to forge a pillar which stabilizes your dantian and your qi sense. There are three main ways to break through to Foundation Establishment.

The second is to use natural materials to break through. ...this is actually the most common one among the clans. They find elemental resources or materials of high grade to use to build the Foundation Pillars. It is safer and good for easier pillar stabilization, but still has impurities due to being an assisted breakthrough.
The last one is to breakthrough without any assisted materials or pills. This is the best but the most difficult path. Failure will introduce severe backlash, but it provides the cleanest foundation, no impurities, as well as stable Qi pillars, which in turn determines how strong you are compared to other Foundation Establishment cultivators.
