Chapter 20 - Military Vehicle

Lukas immediately dashed towards the location and picked up all the loot and stored it in inventory before going to a different location to absorb the crystals.

Most of the houses in the society were open one way or another — maybe someone inside got infected or maybe they all got infected. Some might have cared about their kids and left the house once they were infected and even brought food for them, but were their house entrances strong enough to hold the other infected... those open gates tell a different story.

In the beginning even their house entrance was attacked, even some tried to climb the walls but as one of the richest families in this neighborhood, their walls had live wires along with sharp metals, making it almost impossible to invade.

As for the main gate, they could forget about it — it was because too strong and they couldn't create noise for a longer time while breaking it as even if dead walkers didn't attack them initially, too much noise makes them berserk.

This scene had happened in front of their house, after all, every infected wanted to enter inside for obvious reasons. Hannah and Grace were deadly beautiful so how could they not want to get their hands on them when they were about to die.

After finding an empty house he brought out the crystals and held one of them tightly and suddenly he felt it becoming smaller in his hand before disappearing. He had absorbed it. Slowly, he absorbed the other three crystals too.

'Now let's test out this bow more thoroughly' He wanted to see if he could make the attack weaker or stronger on a whim or not. Given the amount of tiredness he felt with two arrows wasn't much but he had a feeling he could only use 10 to 15 arrows constantly before getting extremely tired.

So knowing everything about his limits is a must to keep track of the situation while battling.

The knife he received was only level 0. It was obvious as the drops definitely depend on the level of the dead walkers.

He even wanted to see if he could sell the knife in the shop but it didn't seem to be a possibility... 'oh well, at least I can store this thing in inventory'

After sorting out everything, he began going towards the area where his aunt lived while testing out everything he could with the bow.

His aunt's house wasn't much further, about 8 miles exactly. The only thing that he was afraid of was her well-being. Her house was no doubt safe and not to mention due to her husband being in the military, he had a license to keep guns. So, if she handled everything perfectly then she definitely might survive.

The only issue was food and the fact that she never contacted them.

After a few minutes later of coming out of his society, he met with three more groups of dead walkers, the total number of crystals he absorbed till now is 15. He also tested the bow to some extent.

He figured out one thing, if he didn't control anything then the attack is always the strongest. The first attack he had used with the bow was the strongest, with a blast radius of five meters.

So thinking that he can make an attack stronger than that just by drawing the bow to maximum is not possible. He can decrease the strength though, it's just like clenching your fist, how strong you want it to be is in your control.

He hadn't gotten full control over it but he was in the right direction. Using less strong attacks against single dead walkers is far better as he felt that the energy it used from his body was far less.

Till now he had seen one or two houses which are still closed but he didn't try to see if someone is alive there or not. He didn't have time to worry about others right now.

If they are alive then they would survive if they hold for a little longer, it's up to their luck.

He came to a big wide road which was as empty as it could get. There were some broken vehicles and street light poles lying here and there. After a month he was finally out of his neighbourhood... 'Let's see how this goes'

He began sprinting towards the direction of his aunt's house. Dead walkers generally gather around the area where there are still uninfected people. So, he doubted that he would meet them here unless they are randomly walking around to search for new prey.

His speed of running was quite fast, it felt like he could easily beat an Olympic gold medalist right now.

After a while he arrived in an area which was a big city square, the start of the main area of the city. His aunt's society was on the other street going from this square.

Just as he was about to enter the square he saw something and immediately hid behind a pole.

A SUV, and it was military type. It entered the square before going towards a different street.

Lukas was surprised, it seems there was a group of people who had survived somewhere near. It was a little expected though. Even when survivability rate was only one percent, some people might have survived and become evolved.

If they have started saving people then they might have created a safe sanctuary for themselves. There is a chance that there are more than one or two evolvers in this sanctuary.

He stayed hidden as he didn't want to contact them. In this lawless world he doubted it was a sanctuary with proper rules.

'Come to think of it, whenever I saw evolvers on the net, there definitely were a few other evolvers nearby as if having an evolver in an area itself increases the little chance of others evolving'

Well, there is no point in thinking about it right now.

He came out when the vehicle left far and went towards the street leading to his aunt's society.

This street was filled with houses so going through it would be a little tough if it was filled with dead walkers.
